Gluten free notations on menu at restaurant in Montefalco

This restaurant, located in the main square at the top of the hill in Montefalco, has indoor as well as outdoor dining. Our group sat outside to enjoy the lovely weather. They make their own gluten free pasta at this restaurant. It’s a thick spaghetti shape. I had it with a mushroom sauce, which was a special of the day. It was quite good. I started with a delicious salad of shaved parmesan, arugula, pear, and pine nuts, dressed with balsamic. All naturally gluten free (and gluten free on request) items are clearly labeled on the menu, as are the naturally vegetarian (and vegetarian on request) items. So eating here is quite easy, even without knowing Italian.

Restaurant with gluten free pasta in Orvieto

Built near a cliffside, the space this restaurant occupies was first an ancient Etruscan cave. We arrived here for a very late lunch, around 2:40. They typically close between 3-7 pm, so we begged them to stay and feed us! They were a bit grouchy about this, to be honest. We told them we'd be quick, so we quickly ordered pastas all around the table, with some of us opting for the gluten free pasta. Nothing was marked GF on the menu...there was just a notation about the availability of gluten free pasta. Our server said that, of course, their meat entrees were gluten free as well. I ordered an unusual pasta dish because it was something I'd never seen on a menu....fusilli with salmon, lemon, and crushed pistachios. It was very good, although there were just little tiny pieces of salmon, not what I was expecting. One of my gluten free companions did not like her gluten free pasta with shaved truffles, as it did not have any sauce...just pasta with shaved truffles and a bit of parmesan. Apparently the sauce they typically serve with this dish (which another one of our traveling companions ordered, non-GF) has gluten (flour?) in it, so they leave that off if ordering it gluten free. Upon request, they managed to prepare some sort of sauce for my GF friend to add to give her pasta a bit more flavor. I can't rave about this restaurant, but if we had come earlier and had a bit more time to order and try out a variety of different entrees, etc., I'm sure it would have been a better experience. They have pizza, but it is not available gluten free.

Dining at a southern plantation

My friend wanted me to experience a true southern plantation, so after walking around the beautiful grounds here (we were too late for a tour), we ate dinner at their restaurant. While no items are marked as gluten free, the server told me they try to make as much as possible gluten free, including the steaks, fish, rack of lamb, and shrimp and grits. Those were great, as was the seared Atlantic scallop appetizer served with braised morels, spring peas, and pancetta. A nice place for lunch or dinner after a proper plantation tour!

Pleasant gluten free surprise in Mt. Pleasant, SC

Saveurs Du Monde Cafe is located in the Mt. Pleasant "Shoppes At Seaside Farms" shopping center. While this is a traditional French bakery and cafe with all the finest French sandwiches, crepes, and pastries, I was thrilled to see they offered some gluten free things on the menu, including crepes! They offer both sweet and savory gluten free crepe options. I ordered the Chicken Florentine Crepe with chicken breast, mushrooms, and Swiss cheese (on a buckwheat crepe). Typically, they also add béchamel sauce, but they said it is not gluten free, so they omitted that. The crepe was delicious and served with a choice of mixed greens or fresh fruit. I verified that they cleaned the crepe press thoroughly before making the gluten free crepes. There are a few other treats here that are gluten free, including the many flavored macarons and coconut macaroons. I was told by the man helping me that they serve a lot of gluten free customers. It's a great place to stop for breakfast or lunch.

Wonderful meal and GF options at Mt. Pleasant, SC restaurant

This is a wonderful restaurant. I dined here when visiting a friend who grew up in this area. This is currently her parent's favorite restaurant, and I understood why. While not overly formal or pretentious, it is elegant and cozy. Turns out, it is Mt. Pleasant's only AAA Four Diamond restaurant. While they don't have a gluten free menu -- or even any items marked GF on the main menu -- there are many items the server told me were naturally gluten free, and the chef could certainly accommodate gluten free diners with substitutions if necessary. I ordered an Iceberg Wedge salad, which was delicious, followed by the Maple Leaf Farms Duck Breast with tart cherry-pomegranate glaze. I substituted the succotash for a to-die-for risotto, and the entree was also served with haricot verts (French green beans). Everything was so delicious. The only reason I'm not giving it a 5 palm rating is because they don't have a listing of their gluten free options. That would make things clearer and easier.
