Mexican restaurant in Washington, DC offering gluten free fare

So I thought that I would share will everyone that I just tried a brand new eat-out place that just opened in DC called District Taco (located at 13th and F st.). I got to talk with the owner of the place since it is a new restaurant he was there to answer all my questions. So I should first start out by saying that I am highly allergic to Gluten and if I even touch gluten I will break out or if I eat it I will get short of breath right away. So of course I was very leery as to if I should try there corn tortilla (SOFT) not because I would be allergic to the corn tortilla (Yeah that is right SOFT not hard) but because of the cross contamination so I grilled the owner as to there process and then watched. They actually have designated a second section on the burner for gluten free tortilla's only which was nice and if they are dealing with gluten free issue person they will change gloves so no cross contamination there. It was also nice that it seem like they have so far trained all there employees very well in the gluten free way because everyone I spoke to was very knowledgeable and on one page. So as far as the taste test the taco was superb the most authentic Mexican taco I have ever tasted. Almost all there salsa's they offered were gluten free, too, which was nice. As for allergic reaction which if there was even a speck of Gluten on it or in it I would have know ASAP. THERE WAS NONE only a full satisfied belly. NOTE: The owner said that if you always tell them that you are Gluten Free they put that on the receipt and that lets the staff know to prepare your meal separately. He said that if you just order the corn tortilla and not say you are GF they will not put it on there and will not cook the tortilla on a separate burner and cross contamination can happen that way, so make sure to always tell the cashier that you are gluten free. We were pleased to stumble upon the new gluten free crust offered at Pizzeria Paradiso in Georgetown. It has a homemade blend of gluten free flours with garbanzo bean flour definitely the dominant flavor. Different and delicious. The gluten free pizza is being offered at the Georgetown and Dupont restaurants but not the Old Town location. They are also adverting gf beer from New Planet. Bakery with gluten-free treats in Rockville, Maryland

I went to Les Delices Bakery on Gude Drive in Rockville on Saturday to buy some pastries for a dinner party. The owner and his wife could not have been more delightful. The pastries were beautiful, delicious and received rave reviews from our guests. The owner made it clear that their bakery is not a dedicated gluten free facilty, which I appreciated, so buyer beware. But I will definitely go back and support this authentic French baker making a living in an off the beaten track shopping strip. Bonus: they are in the same shopping strip as The Bean Bag, a great deli that use to be next to the Giant on Old Georgetown Road. Gluten-Free Bakery with amazing cakes

Just wanted to provide a word of "kudos" to Emma Cech, the owner of the Happy Tart for her delightful and gluten-free creations. A friend thoughtfully purchased a gluten-free birthday cake for me last week from this Del Ray bakery, and let me tell you, folks, this cake is the real deal. It was a custom-ordered chocolate cake with strawberry filling and rich chocolate ganache. It is absolutely decadent!! And, I've had it in my fridge for a few days (it's mere presence haunts me; it is that good) and despite the strawberry filling, the cake layers have not gotten the least bit soggy. This, friends, is a cake well done! SUBMITTED BY A MEMBER OF THE DC CELIACS SUPPORT GROUP http://www.dcceliacs.com

Cupcake shop with gluten-free cupcakes in McLean, Virginia

I tried a gluten-free cupcake (coconut) at Fluffy Thoughts Cakes in McLean last night, and it was sooooooo good. I bought a regular cupcake for a friend (Samoa - just like the cookies), and she raved about it, as well. They have a schedule online, and they make GF cupcakes on Wednesday and Fridays. (This Friday is Boston Creme.) They have GF macaroons, and do wedding cakes, too. Open 9-6:30 Monday-Saturday 1320 Old Chain Bridge Road (it's actually on the back side of the building, so it is easier to find if you are on Beverly Road, sort of diagonal from the UPS Store.)
