Restaurant for gluten free dining in Gettysburg, PA

Just spent two awesome days in Gettysburg. Had dinner (Thursday night) and lunch (Friday) at the Dobbin House, an 18th century home converted into a restaurant (dinner) and tavern (lunch). Both offered gluten-free alternatives. The waiter at dinner was very knowledgeable of cross-contamination issues (to the extent that when he brought the bread for my husband he put it on the large windowsill we were sitting against so that "any crumbs from the plate would not reach my plate." I ordered their smoked salmon (without the crackers) as an appetizer and was assured by the waiter that the crackers were in a bin in a separate section of the kitchen so there would not be any problems of cross- contamination. The chicken with mushrooms and tomatoes was superb! The waitress at lunch was also very careful with my lunch. She brought me a list of what I could order. I had a green salad with turkey, sliced apples, walnuts, tomatoes with honey mustard dressing and a side of potato salad. It was delicious! My family and I have been to Not Your Average Joe's in Kentlands several times, and we love them. All staff is trained to follow their procedures for Gluten Free. They do Dairy Free for us as well. The food is excellent, including the hamburger buns. I've tried a couple of their salads, the burgers, and the Vietnamese flounder, and I always get the mango sorbet for dessert. Pasquale's in the Monteray Plaza (near Food Lion) has GF pizza! Crust is French Meadow brand, and they are aware of/careful about cross-contamination, according to my phone conversation with them. We will definitely try it when we are in the Outer Banks! SUBMITTED BY A MEMBER OF THE DC CELIACS SUPPORT GROUP http://www.dcceliacs.com

Market and cafe with gluten free food near Bethany Beach, DE

An exciting new addition in the Bethany area... New this summer, there's a 100 percent gluten free cafe called The Birch Tree Cafe inside of the Good Earth Market on Route 26, just outside of Bethany. Good Earth has been open for several years, with a nice selection of gluten free grocery products - but this cafe has just opened recently. Each day there is a selection of gluten free homemade muffins and other baked goods, as well as coffee and teas, and at lunch there are gluten free soups, sandwiches and salads. Again, the kitchen is totally gluten free. Starting in July they say they will also be offering dinner on Thursday thru Monday evenings. It's a small place and nothing fancy but quite yummy. I want to let all the Celiacs in the DC Metro area know about the best restaurant that I've been to (been diagnosed since 1997)-- An authentic Italian restaurant: RICCIUTIS. they have great pizza PLUS a full Gluten Free menu of appetizers with gluten free flat bread and a number of entres. It is located in Olney, MD near the intersection of Georgia Ave. and Route 108 (not far off the ICC) in a lovely old house that it romantic for both casual and special occasions.
