High end Italian dining in Newport Coast, CA Mar 27, 2019
reviewer: Glutinusminimus from Potomac, MD

This is a very high end restaurant in the Pelican Hill Resort along Newport Coast. (The resort also has another restaurant called Pelican Grill.) This restaurant, Andrea, is Italian, but don't think spaghetti and meatballs! They hand roll fresh pastas each day, have tableside prepared risotto, and an impressive wine list. It is pricey but good for a special occasion. You'll enjoy a nice view of the Pacific from most tables. On the night we were there, we were not in the mood for a multi-course meal, so we just ordered salads and entrees. Having just come from cocktails, we didn't order wine either. The baby mixed green salad with pine nuts, strawberries, and gorgonzola red wine dressing was outstanding and fresh, and all of the fish dishes we ordered (branzino, salmon, and a fish of the day hand filleted tableside) were delicious, albeit not terribly filling (rather small portions without many sides). The lamb chops (2 served) were also a big hit with my Dad. All of these things were gluten free, as everything is made from scratch, and the chef can accommodate gluten free and other special dietary requests (my Dad is also garlic free). They did bring gluten free bread upon request, which was toasted gluten free bread (okay, nothing to write home about). Although their hand rolled homemade pastas are off limits if you're gluten free, they do have other gluten free pasta that can be ordered with various sauces/preparations. The choices under each category of the menu are moderate -- not the most I've seen at Italian restaurants, to be sure, but more than a few options. Some of the preparations are a bit non-traditional, so perhaps take a look at the menu before making a reservation here. I'd give this restaurant a higher rating if there were more choices, markings that made it clear what was gluten free, and if the portions were a bit larger for the priciness of the food.

Amazing chicken and gluten free dining in Ashburn Mar 27, 2019
reviewer: Glutinusminimus from Potomac, MD

You can download Nando's nutrition guide to see what contains gluten at this restaurant, but suffice it to say, there's not much that does. You have your choice of many great menu items. The highlight here is the flame grilled chicken, with your choice of sauces/marinades. Our family typically orders the Jumbo chicken platter of two whole chickens (served quartered) and two extra large sides. We typically order the fries, which are to-die-for (and gluten free), and corn on the cob. The mashed potatoes are outstanding, too, as is the butternut squash and corn side (but that's seasonal). They also have side and entree sized salads (topped with chicken). The prices are good and the food is fresh and delicious. It's a nice fast-casual type restaurant where you order at the counter and then wait for your food to be brought to the table. I always specify gluten free when ordering, but only the obvious things have gluten here (bread and rolls for the sandwiches, garlic sticks and Portuguese rolls, croutons on the salad, and the baked dessert options). They also serve wine and beer (but no GF beer).

Amazing gluten free flame grilled chicken in Reston, VA Mar 27, 2019
reviewer: Glutinusminimus from Potomac, MD

This is a fast casual restaurant, fairly new to Reston. The highlight of the menu here is flame grilled chicken, with a choice of preparations/marinades. Most things are gluten free on this menu, with the exception of the obvious like rolls, croutons on the salad, and the baked desserts. But the chicken and all sauces and marinades are gluten free, as are the amazing fries, mashed potatoes, corn on the cob and entree and side salads. I highly recommend this restaurant for high quality food at a great value. Our family typically orders the two chicken combo (they quarter the chicken for you) that comes with two extra large sides. We typically have some leftovers to take home. You can download their Nutrition Guide on their website to see which items do contain gluten. Wine served (but no GF beer that I remember on the menu).

Fast casual and gluten free friendly restaurant in Ballston Mar 27, 2019
reviewer: Glutinusminimus from Potomac, MD

This fast casual restaurant is very gluten free friendly. You order at the counter, and they bring the food to your table. They specialize in flame grilled chicken. You can either order individual portions/platters or a whole chicken platter (or two). We get the family platter with two chickens and two extra large sides. All the chicken here is gluten free, including all their marinades. But take a look at the Nutrition Guide that can be downloaded from their website (or ask for it in the restaurant). Most of their sides are gluten free, too, including their fries and mashed potatoes, corn on the cob, and coleslaw. They also have side salads and entree salads with chicken on top. The food is a great value and makes a good alternative to burgers or other less healthy fare. Our family eats at this chain, with locations all over northern Virginia, DC, and Maryland, quite often. They also serve wine (beer, too, but I don't think they currently offer any GF options).

Really nice selection of gluten free choices at this Laguna Beach restaurant Mar 27, 2019
reviewer: Glutinusminimus from Potomac, MD

We were thrilled to find this restaurant in Laguna Beach. They offer a really nice selection of gluten free options, all marked on their menu as "gluten-free." For starters, you can choose from the following appetizers: ahi tuna stack or crispy brussels sprouts. Most of the side salad selections are gluten free, including the Wedge. There's also a seafood chowder that's gluten free! I ordered the Superfood Salad, which was outstanding -- an entree salad with toasted quinoa, kale, brussels sprouts, cabbage, shredded broccoli, sunflower seeds, beets, dried cranberries, and feta -- with a lime vinaigrette. I added grilled salmon to the top for some extra protein. You can also add shrimp, grilled chicken, or flat iron steak. You've got seafood entrees like Chilean sea bass, salmon, and citrus-glazed jumbo shrimp to choose from as entrees, as well as many different steak options, which other gluten free folks at our table ordered. There's even a "coffee encrusted New York steak" with blue cheese, bourbon caramel, and served with arugula and Yukon Gold mashed potatoes! There's a pork chop with bacon mushroom jus and mesquite grilled baby back ribs. Almost all the sides are gluten free, including the asiago garlic fries and butternut squash and kale hash. Save room for dessert, as you have three gluten free choices, including the Flourless Chocolate Cake and the Butterscotch Custard (pictured here). Amazing meal and friendly service right on Pacific Coast Highway just south of the main part of Laguna Beach.
