This is a home bakery that sets up in the middle of a farmers market several times per week but don't let that make you think they don't know what they are doing! Everything that they do is gluten free, dairy free and using organic ingredients! They even offer vegan stuff, daily. You can call and order, on the days when they are not at the market (we did) and arrange to pickup at the market, or they will deliver it to the local area, for a small fee. I think it was $5.00.
We stumbled on them when we skipped the beach, due to rain, and headed to the nearby farmers market. It being a weekday, we didn't think that there would be much going on and, while there are quite a few nice little shops, Sweet Enchantments Bakery was the only vendor set up in the pavilion area.
They had several items to choose from on what they termed their 'slow' day- and I was surprised to see that they had dinner rolls and vegan chocolate or vanilla cupcakes. I was also surprised that they pretty much insisted that we taste everything before we bought anything-to the point of tossing a perfectly good roll because it had been 'sitting too long and will be dry' and cutting open another, so that my husband and I could taste it. Our friends chose to sample the chocolate and vanilla cupcakes. They wound up buying half a doz- three of each- which was pretty amazing since they do not have a problem with gluten. Of course, they shared-you can't tell the difference between these and 'real' cupcakes! I bought dinner rolls-they were light and fluffy, and sort of like a hearty parker house-and delicious!
They do not use any corn, rice, or soy intheir products and checked with each of us to see if we had a problem with tree nuts because they do use almond meal in some things. I said that I had a peanut allergy and the guy assured me that they don't even have peanuts, corn, rice or soy or anything with gluten or dairy in their kitchen.
Overall, we loved both the cupcakes and the rolls so much that we went on their facebook page and asked for more, for the next day. They were there, fresh and ready, for pick up. That was a Friday, I think, and they had three different sorts of muffins, dinner rolls, cakes, cookies, angel food cakes, just soo much. and all of it is organic and gluten free and dairy free. I think there were three vegan things too--brownies i think, was one. I tasted that and they were really good. We left with dinner rolls, banana muffins and angel food cake. We will be going back, when we return to Virginia Beach next year, on vacation. She said that they are working on getting a storefront at the farmers market and is hoping to be in it before the fall. Either way, we will find her and her food. It is too hard to find gluten free stuff when you travel, let alone the quality and variety that is offered at this bakery. Her prices were good too- 19.00 for half doz largish banana muffins and 6 and a half for a 6 inch or so angel food cake. The dinner rolls were 6 dollars and change for a bag of 6.
