The Palm is a wonderful, high-end steakhouse with its first location in New York City years ago -- and now with about 30 other locations. In general, you can't go wrong here. Steak and lobster are their specialties, but they have some wonderful fish on the menu as well -- and a range of other items. But surprisingly, they don't have a formal Gluten Free Menu. Don't get me wrong...this is the type of place where the chef knows what's in each item on the menu and can tell you what does -- and does not -- contain gluten. You'd think they'd formalize this with a Gluten Free Menu, then, to make it easier on their gluten free patrons -- and on themselves. They must get the same questions again and again. Although...our server did need to go back to the kitchen to inquire about a few things we were considering ordering to check as to whether or not they contained gluten. The bottom line is this can be a very safe place to eat, but you'll generally need to be very clear when you order. The steaks were safe, but even the lobster tails typically come dusted with breadcrumbs, so you need to request they NOT put those on. The lobster bisque soup was unfortunately NOT an option, as it contained a flour-based roux thickener. The Iceberg Lettuce Wedge was delicious, as was the fish special I ordered (which, as I recall, was a Chilean Sea Bass, but not prepared as on their standard menu. It was a special of the evening with tomatoes and basil and a sauce that they had to specially tailor to make it gluten free. Lots of flavor and a wonderfully large portion. Perfectly cooked, too. For dessert, there was a flourless chocolate cake and a special seasonal dessert: pumpkin creme brûlée, which was gluten free and divine! Had a great bottle of Zinfandel from their extensive wine list, and all in all had a nice dinner. I just wish they'd offer gluten free bread, in addition to their larger "regular" breadbasket full of a variety of home-baked breads -- and it would be less confusing and less "work" if they just put their standard GF offerings into a Gluten Free Menu. A great place for a special dinner of high-quality steaks, lobster, or fish.
