No Gluten Free menu, but everyone was knowledgeable and accomodating. Host took the regular menu and marked the items my son should "stay away from." Even had gluten free soy sauce and lots of eating ideas. Made us feel comfortable and well taken care of.

Good prices. My son (12 yo) likes the motif and the conveyor-belt delivery system. I like it, too! A nice change of pace.

Gluten Free Cupcakes in DC/Maryland/Virginia,

We finally had the opportunity to try Cakelove's gluten-free cupcakes. This is a 7-location chain of homemade cakes and cupcakes (and a few other select pastries) in the Northern Virginia/Maryland/Washington DC area. In addition to at least a dozen different "regular" (gluten) cupcakes, they typically have their gluten-free cupcakes available in both yellow and chocolate cake, with some sort of buttercream icing (usually vanilla and chocolate but sometimes other varieties). We tried both varieties, and both were quite good (they better be, at $3.50 per cupcake!). I'm a bit turned off by the price people are now charging for cupcakes which are gone in about 6 bites, but heh, it's just nice to have gluten-free cupcakes available, without always having to bake them yourself. Their yellow cake variety with the white buttercream icing was my favorite, with a hint of lemon flavor (not sure if it was really meant to be lemon and the woman helping me thought it was just vanilla, or if they just put a hint of lemon in their yellow cake all the time...either way, it was good!) The chocolate was tasty, too, but I have found making a good-tasting gluten-free chocolate cake isn't as hard to do as perfecting a good gluten-free yellow cake. Having tried several store-bought gluten-free cake mixes ourselves over the years (Cherrybrook Kitchen's chocolate being our favorite) and having just tried the new Betty Crocker gluten-free yellow cake mix (another home-run!), I have to say Cakelove's cupcakes aren't necessarily any better than either of those options. The buttercream icing is good, but again, I can make that myself (either from scratch, or using Cherrybrook Kitchen's to-die-for vanilla buttercream mix). However, just having a very good gluten-free cupcake available at a place like this is fantastic. They also take special orders for gluten-free cakes in either yellow or chocolate (with many different buttercream icing options). So if you want a beautiful and tasty gluten-free cake that you don't have to make yourself, give Cakelove a try!
