My husband and I often celebrate Valentine's Day at Ruth's Chris steakhouse, but this year we wanted to try something a bit different. We decided to try a relatively new restaurant in Ashburn: Eddie Merlot's. The reference to Merlot in the name does have something to do with the varietal of wine, as our server explained. Something about the owner or one of his friends always choosing Merlot. Regardless, the food here is excellent, and the restaurant is gorgeous. It felt very special dining here. (We actually celebrated Valentine's the day after, and we prefer it that way, when it isn't so crowded.) The restaurant was still fairly busy on this night, which was good to see. It is quite large with various rooms, some of which could be used for private parties. We were in the main dining room with the beautiful columns. My husband ordered a steak, and I ordered a fish special. Both were outstanding. I also really enjoyed the Romaine Waldorf salad to start. There are no gluten free notations on the menu, but just talk with your server. The kitchen can accommodate gluten free requests for almost any menu item. Ask them to do the sweet potato casserole gluten free. It is amazing (a side dish). I highly recommend this restaurant. Again, although there's no Gluten Free Menu, per se, it's very gluten free friendly, and everything is made from scratch. Perfect for a special occasion or just a nice evening out!
