Just come back from Santorini in Greece. I stayed in El Greco hotel in Fira for 7 days. The hotel has no gluten free menu, so I was concerned about what I was going to eat as we booked for bed and breakfast. I emailed them prior to my visit and they reassured me that everything was prepared for my needs. Every morning I was provided with gluten free bread, and I ate from the hot breakfast buffet. I was a bit concerned but they said everything was cooked separately, but I kept asking the staff to confirm this every morning!! They had gluten free muesli for me too. I also went out every night for a meal in different restaurants, and after I explained my disease they were pleased to accommodate my needs. I ate a couple of meals at the hotel restaurant too. One of the meals was from the buffet they provide every night for the guests. I was not sure about the food but the manager came to me and explained what was safe to eat. The next night I had a lovely souvlaki meal and again the manager and staff were very accommodating to my needs. The food was fresh and cooked on the day or if you ordered from the menu it was done there and then. Overall I had a lovely experience dining at his hotel and in the different restaurants on the island. A lot of the Greek food is marinated with olive oil and herbs and then cooked on a grill or a barbecue. I do recommend this hotel for families too as I saw lots of children. The hotel is very child friendly. I had a lovely experience to celebrate my 50th birthday. This was my first holiday abroad as I am a newly diagnosed Coeliac, and I was very nervous about the whole thing. I will definitely go back to this lovely hotel again.
