Tula Gluten Free Bakery is dedicated gluten free and serves a full line of baked goods both savory and sweet. They also offer breads, soups, salads, sandwiches, and locally sourced beverages for breakfast and lunch. Many of their menu items are also egg, dairy, and soy free so if you have multiple allergies, check in with a bakery team member. They use Bob's Red Mill grains for all 25 of their gluten free goods, which uses certified dedicated gluten free mills.

Sometimes I just don’t feel like cooking or baking, and if you are looking for gluten-free options, you know how difficult the search can be to find someone to do it for you. I am happy to report that I have found another wonderful place to get gluten free goodies here in Portland, and lucky for me, it’s very conveniently located. Sweet Thing Bakehouse sits in a new building on the corner of NE Alberta and MLK Blvd. I have stopped there before for a quick coffee or tea and finally had time to spare the other day to stop and relax for a minute. The space is very clean and comfortable and the gluten –free and vegan offerings are separate from the other baked goods. The staff there is always friendly, and the girl that waited on me was both friendly and very patient as I asked my multitude of questions about how the GF stuff was prepared and my usual litany of cross contamination avoidance questions. I decided to have a glazed lemon coconut cookie that I thought went exceptionally well with my favorite tea and my daughter LOVED the peanut butter cookie. What pleased me most about the lemon cookie was the texture and that it didn’t fall apart. I have to say that my absolute favorite gluten free choice though was the Southern comfort cream cheese coffee cake that tasted wickedly indulgent whether one needs to eat gluten free food or not. Really. I gave a piece to my sister and didn’t tell her it was GF and she enjoyed it immensely. I can’t wait to go back to Sweet Thing and try the dark chocolate dipped macaroons, and everyone at my house wants more of the Black and Blue cookies (dark chocolate and blueberry). Maybe I need to pick up a few Double Chocolate Chunk cookies. It’s a tough call - everything there looks and tastes delicious!
