I have not eaten at a Carrabbas since my Celiac Disease diagnosis in 2008.
We were on a college visit with our daughter and I remembered
reading that they had a gluten free menu so we stopped. It was around
3:00 and the restaurant was virtually empty. I was pleasantly
surprised with the Gluten Free menu and ordered the sicilian chicken
soup and a chicken entree. Our waiter was very knowledgable
about gluten. My soup arrived and it was DELICIOUS right until
I was about half way through and scooped up a piece of pasta
on my spoon.
I simply set the spoon across the cup and when the waiter
came by the table he immediately saw the problem. He said the
gluten free soup was cooked in a separate pot and he couldn't
understand how pasta could have gotten in my soup. He was
very apologetic and offered to bring me another cup but I
declined. He said he would send the manager to our table.
The manager arrived and also apologized. My husband very
calmly explained that we weren't looking for a free meal or any
compensation but that cross contamination is a very serious
problem and I would be sick for the next several days. The
manager did not attempt to explain how the pasta could have
gotten in to the soup--I wish I would have asked him. (I have to
wonder if there really is a separate pot.)
My entree was equally delicious even though I was a bit
concerned. I was hungry so I ate.
Note: the manager came back to our table and said that since
we didn't want my meal comped he wanted us to accept a $25
Even though I had this experience I will try the restaurant
again when we are back in town in June--the food was that
