Gluten Free Paradise in New Zealand!,
November 22, 2011
We love this place!!
The Goodness of Food Cafe, in Carterton, about an hour's drive from Wellington, is a slice of heaven for those on a gluten free diet. It is the ONLY sit down eatery and wholesale bakery in the lower North Island dedicated to gluten free food! It has only been open for 6 months or so, but we consider ourselves regulars! Not only can you order anything you like from the menu, you can be guaranteed that it has been produced in a contamination free zone.
The chef himself is Coeliac and found such a lack of options available to him, that he decided to take matters into his own hands. He now produces gluten free food so tasty, that many people don't realise that what they are eating is, in fact, gluten and wheat free.
They are also wholesaling their baked goods to other food outlets throughout the country, under the name Frillys Gluten Free.
They do things like cheesecakes, scones, muffins, brownies, slices, eclairs, doughnuts, sweet and savoury pies, quiches, corn fritters, pancakes, pizza, French toast...even fish and chips in gluten free batter! The hardest part is deciding what to eat...such a rare treat for anyone on a gluten free diet.
And did I mention, their coffee is also the best in town?!
This place is great and definitely worth a visit.
