I had heard very nice things about this fairly new (2 or 3 years old) restaurant in my area from friends. Being a celiac however I generally don't eat out often When I do, however, I usually just have a "safe" meal like a piece of grilled chicken, or broiled (flavorless) fish.
Enter Oysterman's!!! As much as I appreciate all the restaurants that are trying to accomodate celiacs, they seem to have the same general faults. Either the staff is untrained, the chef is afraid to be creative, or the style and choices are repetitive.
At Oysterman's, the chef has taken many of their classic american and seafood dishes and modified them making them gluten free. Everything tastes great and I don't suffer afterwards. Thats even more reassuring seing as how they have a great menu of several different items to choose from. I can get practically whatever I'm in the mood for at any time.
The staff has been traind to the point that the bus boys brought me my own container of butter with my Gluten-free bread. If they are not sure about an item not on the gluten-free menu (such as one of the night's specials) they went straight to the chef who immediately answered the questions.
The chef must have done some research because the food hasen't suffered in quality the way it does in some places.
The prices are very reasonable (we all know that GF food is expensive!) and the servers are bright and friendly. I hope that everyone has as wonderful an experience as I had. Jim -Oakdale NY
