Hotel in downtown New York City that's great for gluten free travelers,

It should come as no surprise that the Ritz Carlton takes gluten free diets seriously. They take hospitality seriously in general, and this particular hotel was no exception. We chose this hotel when for our recent visit to New York City, based on a special deal we got through American Express and its proximity to some of the sightseeing we had planned with our kids (including the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, the 9/11 Memorial, and the New York Stock Exchange and financial district). It could not have been a better choice. The hotel is accessible to many different subway lines, so even when we ventured uptown, it was always just a quick subway ride away, without even needing to transfer trains.

As with most Ritz Carlton properties, the service is impeccable at this hotel. My husband was impressed that they greeted him with a bottle of water after he entered the lobby after a late morning run…such a nice touch!

But on to the gluten free experience...our only opportunity to dine at the hotel was for breakfast, but we spoke to James, one of the chefs, who assured us that they take gluten free diets very seriously and have many options available for all meals. For breakfast, there are organic eggs and many breakfast meats that are all gluten free. I particularly enjoyed the gluten free chicken sausage. They had wonderful gluten free toast, which they toast in a dedicated gluten free toaster. They also have many Udi's products available -- bread, bagels, muffins. Our kids were with us for part of our stay, and they have a Kids Breakfast, pictured below, which for our Celiac son consisted of organic scrambled eggs, fruit, and an Udi's chocolate muffin -- along with amazing fresh-squeezed orange juice. The chef had also offered to make gluten free pancakes or waffles if we wanted them.

I would highly recommend this hotel if you're planning a trip to New York City. You will not be disappointed, and I'm confident that if you planned to take more of your meals (besides breakfast) in the hotel, you would be in good hands!
