As with other restaurants that do not have gluten-free items marked on their menu, we called The People’s Pub in advance. The person with whom we spoke was knowledgeable about Celiacs. This was our waitperson’s first day and she did not clearly communicate our needs to the kitchen. We questioned one of the side dishes and one of the kitchen staff came to our table to let us know that the dish was not safe. The kitchen recooked the entree from scratch. We felt that the error is the kind of thing that can be expected in a restaurant that does not have a gluten-free menu and understand our responsibility to work with the restaurant staff. The People’s Pub has excellent gastro-pub food, along with some fancier entrees and an excellent drink program.
