Im a college Freshman here at College of the Ozarks. One of the first questions we asked them was how they accommodate those with gluten allergies. I was told that they have a lot of tasty gluten free options! I showed up on campus only to find that they had one hot meal option available each day and were catering also to those who were vegetarian and vegan as well. This meant that most often the option consisted of tofu or beans. The salad bar was questionable because of cross contamination. They had gluten free bread, but nothing available to put on it, as the deli meat, cheese and peanut butter were all exposed to cross contamination. The only halfway decent thing in the cafeteria is the dessert. I've gotten sick multiple times because of cross contamination on the salad bar. When we addressed those in charge, we were blown off, and were told that cross contamination was impossible because the gluten free options had different colored handles. We were told again that there were lots of gluten free options. If it was not for my mom fixing and freezing meals for me, i would be going to bed hungry on a regular basis. Yes, graduating debt free is an incredible blessing, but being gluten free here is not at all easy.
