We had made a reservation for this restaurant prior to our trip, as it was one of the few restaurants I had found that offered a Gluten Free Menu, was AiC certified for gluten free by the Italian Celiac Association, AND was in a convenient area of the city. Don't get me wrong...Venice is small enough to walk around or get where you're going by a relatively short water taxi ride, but we wanted to stay fairly "central" on this particular evening, as we had booked a Vivaldi concert at the San Vidal church at 9 pm. The restaurant took our 7 pm reservation via email (that's when they open for dinner) and confirmed we would have no problem arriving at the concert in plenty of time. We were pleasantly surprised upon arriving at this restaurant when we were escorted through the small interior into a huge outdoor garden covered with an awning completely lined with vines (and fans and lanterns). It was so beautiful...and larger than any restaurant we'd seen in Venice. It was like a secret garden all tucked away. I'm sure it's even prettier and more romantic after dark. Our son was served a warm homemade-looking gluten free roll when they brought the regular bread basket. My husband ordered the house red wine (you never get a bad glass of wine in Italy, so the "house" wine is always a good bet -- and a good value). I enjoyed my first Bellini of the trip: prosecco mixed with peach juice (delicious!). We all had outstanding meals here. My grilled vegetable antipasto platter was amazing, and I feasted on some of the best gluten free spaghetti Vognole I've ever had. The clams were small, compared to what you often get in the U.S., but there were many of them. Both my husband and Celiac son ordered the gluten free spaghetti Bolognese (meat sauce), and our other son ordered the pasta with Pesto sauce. All pasta preparations/sauces can be ordered with either regular pasta or gluten free pasta. Even those of us in the family that don't need to be gluten free often ordered the gluten free pasta instead of regular because it was so good, and you couldn't tell the difference anyway! On this evening we did not opt for dessert since we had to get to our concert. I would highly recommend this restaurant for its ambiance, the professional wait staff (all very cordial and speaking English), and the wonderful food. A wonderful and safe place for Celiac and non-gluten free visitors to Venice!
