We spent a good chunk of the day at this agriturismo, which is a working farm that welcomes guests to stay (like a B&B). Although we didn't stay here (we were staying at another agriturismo in nearby Bevagna), this looked very nice and sat atop a big hill/small mountain in Umbria with fantastic views. I think I recall that the proprietor said this was the first agriturismo in Umbria (or all of Italy -- I just can't remember). We began the day going out with one of the family members and their truffle hunting dogs to see if we could find some truffles, found only in this part of Italy. Unfortunately, after a little over an hour, the dogs hadn't turned anything up, so we went back to the farmhouse. Here, we enjoyed a wonderful meal of many courses, sitting at a long table with other guests and members of the family. The wife cooks all the meals, and she was glad to accommodate gluten free requests. In fact, a member of their family (granddaughter, I think) has Celiac, so they are well aware of how to prepare safe, tasty gluten free dishes. After a first course of cured meats, cheese, a mini salad, and a wonderful eggplant creation with cheese and tomato sauce, we had gluten free pasta with a light tomato sauce. Our third course was roasted pork, with truffle pesto, sausage, and potatoes. We also enjoyed good wine and capuccinos afterward. This was a unique and lovely way to spend the day. Good views, fresh air, truffle hunting, seeing their beautiful horses grazing, and relaxing with a true Italian family for a true Italian meal.
