LOVED this hotel, and it was a great value for the money. If you will be spending some time at the Vatican/St. Peter’s and other sites in the area, like Castel Sant’ Angelo, this is a wonderful location. It took us just 10 minutes to walk to the entrance to the Vatican Museum where our early morning tour started, so this location enabled us to sleep in a bit vs. getting to the area from the more “central” part of Rome. For those days you want to visit the Colosseum, Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps and other tourist sites in the main part of Rome east of the Vatican, you can still stay here and get to those areas via Rome’s Metro, a taxi, or even walking. I loved the street this hotel was on (Borgo Pio). Very safe, with cafes on either side of the hotel, along with other shops and restaurants lining both sides of the street. It was lively at night in this area as well…plenty to do. The staff at the hotel was super-friendly and helpful, the lobby was light, beautiful, and spacious (with a small bar open at night). The rooms were modern and clean. In fact, this hotel is relatively new, and it shows (in a good way). The rooms had everything we needed and were minimalist but bright and cheery. We also had a lovely fenced-off patio outside our room. Breakfast is sometimes included, depending on how you book the room (some rates include breakfast, others do not…but you can always add it on for about 10 euros, which is a very fair price). It is a very nice buffet, and in addition to deli meats, cheeses, vegetables, hard boiled eggs, and juices, tea, coffee, you can also request gluten free toast. (For your gluten-eating companions, there are croissants, plenty of breads and cereals, too.) I didn’t have time for them to defrost/heat the GF toast (I don’t think they use microwaves like we do here in the States!), as we were in a rush to get to our early-morning Vatican tour, but they gave me three small packets of delicious gluten free tea cookies (never seen this brand in the U.S.). I had one packet then and packed the others in my purse for later.
