This meal was a real treat. The restaurant is out in the country, and our small tour group of 12 people ate here the first night of our Food and Wine Tour of Umbria. It is a place popular with locals, so you know it must be good. I don’t know that a lot of tourists would go here, unless they were with local guides, like we were, because it is hard to find. The owner (I think his name was Luca), cooks the many meats on the open flame (during the summer, he does this outside, but being October, we were inside). Everything is served family style, course after course. We enjoyed prosciutto, risotto, broccoli rabe, potatoes, and the many meats (pork, steak, and pigeon). All were delicious, as was the panna cotta with a berry topping for dessert. Wonderful experience! The English spoken by the servers was limited, so again, it’s helpful to know Italian or have someone accompany you who does (like a guide)…especially if you need to articulate your gluten free requirements. Most of the food is gluten free, but you’ll need to let them know to substitute risotto for pasta if they are able to (depends on the night).
