Buca di Beppo is a very special restaurant to my husband and me, as it was the site of our first date, as well as our rehearsal dinner. So when I figured out that I am gluten intolerant, I was very upset to think of our annual anniversary meal at our favorite restaurant being "taken away" from me. I was able to see on their web site that I could still have several gluten-free options, however. So we decided to take a chance and have our anniversary lunch at Buca. When I was ordering, I had made sure ahead of time that I knew what to ask for, from studying the web site. When I asked the server to substitute veggies for the pasta that came with the dish, and then asked for no flour dredge, he asked if I needed my meal to be gluten-free. It was surprising to know that they train their staff to be knowledgeable of their menu, and how to help someone dine there gluten-free. He made sure that my chicken was cooked in a fresh pan, had no flour, and that the broccoli I ordered was cooked in a gluten-free pan as well. It was delicious, and safe. A very nice combination. I'm not sure how much cross-contamination is evident in their kitchen, as I'm not severely sensitive to cross-contamination. But since they are knowledgeable and trained about gluten allergies, I'm hoping that others will have as wonderful an experience as I did!
