As we were riding through Ormond Beach, I commented to my husband about Hull's Seafood Market on the next corner when we were stopped at a traffic light. As we were passing the seafood market, we then noticed the attached restaurant and thought we could probably get some really fresh seafood there since it was attached to their market. So glad we turned around and went back, because we had a great meal. One of the two specials that day was "Trigger Fish" which we had not heard of but were told it is a local fish. I ordered it broiled and chose my two sides as cole slaw and collard greens. The lady taking my order typed in that I had allergies and NOT to put hushpuppies with my order. It was delivered as ordered and a really delicious meal. The fish was perfectly prepared, the cole slaw was just right (not soupy with too much mayo) and the collards were like what Grandma used to cook. For those who are not gluten intolerant like I am, my husband highly recommends the unusual hushpuppies. They had red bell pepper and had somewhat of a sweet taste and were the best he had ever had. He had his Trigger Fish fried and said it was good as well as the fried onion rings. He has no dietary restrictions so it was great to go somewhere that we could both get what we wanted.
Hull's is a very informal place. You place your order, pay, and get your drinks at the counter and then they bring your food to the table in plastic baskets. In conversations with other customers it seems to be a local favorite and we can understand why!
We enjoyed the food so much we would like to have eaten lunch there again on our way out of town but decided to get on the road early for our 10 hour drive home. We will most certainly eat at Hull's again next time we visit Daytona Beach.
