Flame Tree BBQ for Lunch at Disney's Animal Kingdom,

We had lunch at this "quick-service" restaurant at Disney's Animal Kingdom park. The choices ranged from BBQ ribs to rotisserie chicken to hot dogs to fresh salads tossed with the rotisserie chicken. Our son, who is the one on a gluten-free diet, opted for the kids' chicken drumstick order (it came with TWO drumsticks, as well as carrots and grapes -- something Disney offers as part of kids meals, a nice change from fries). The gluten-free rotisserie chicken was delicious...I had it as part of the salad I ordered. The ribs, which my husband ordered, were supposedly g-f as well. They were decent...not the best we've ever had, but not bad. So there's a nice range of tasty, healthy, g-f options here...I'd recommend the chicken or the tossed salad with chicken.

Tusker House Restaurant at Disney's Animal Kingdom,

This was our first morning of our Disney trip, and we had reservations at the Tusker House restaurant in the Animal Kingdom's "Africa" section. They had quite a spread of wonderful food at the buffet, as Disney always does! Much of it was NOT gluten-free, of course (like the pastries), but plenty of it was safe. One of the chefs came to our table to introduce himself and then walked us through the buffet. Our son chose scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, and fruit. The chef also offered to make him gluten-free "Mickey"-shaped waffles, which our son really enjoyed -- they looked just like the "regular" ones other kids were able to get from the buffet. There were also some other things that were gluten-free on the buffet that our son didn't happen to try, like the ham roasted on a spit and some egg dishes similar to crustless quiches which I seem to recall were gluten-free. This is a fun place to dine with kids -- it was a "Character Breakfast" with Donald, Mickey, Daisy, Goofy, and Pluto. And the range of food and "African-inspired" dishes was a really nice change from the typical breakfast buffet. For those who CAN ingest gluten, there was a too-die-for cinnamon banana bread pudding with vanilla sauce and some unique dishes like a coconut sweet potato and raisin casserole (may have been g-f -- I just can't remember). If our 6-year old son was more adventurous, he easily could have veered beyond the bacon-eggs-waffle choices, with the guidance of the chef.
