Great first cruise!,

My husband and I celebrated our 2- year anniversary with a Bahamas trip. Being gluten intolerant, I had to make sure that they knew I needed a strict gluten- free diet. It was an overall good experience! It started with my booking experience. I received an email from the access desk coordinator, Fabienne Cadet, out of the corporate NCL office in Miami. The message requested very detail information like the type of reaction I get and any medicines I take. I responded to the questions and was told the following: "I will inform our onboard dining and medical staff. Also you will have to meet with the food and beverage manager upon embarkation just to introduce herself to him/her and go over all special dietary needs. This way the food and beverage manager will assign a dining team to assist you." This is why I gave this review 4 stars instead of 5: The first day, I was left to fend for myself! I asked questions about the buffet offerings before I decided what I was going to eat. A chef was the one who told me what I needed to stay away from. The evening was a different story: everyone was helpful- from the waiter to the restaurant manager. I had a delicious gluten- free surf and turf plate. The next morning, I went to the same restaurant to eat. By then, they had located gluten- free bread for me! That made me happy. Now frustration started to build for lunch. We went on board for the buffet since I didn't want to take a chance ingesting gluten on the island. There was nothing but salad and fruit available in the buffet that I could eat! I was almost in tears.... THERE is where the Maitre D (sp?) met with me. He directed me to the Italian restaurant where I ordered gluten- free pizza. He also told me that he advised I pre- order my meals to make sure they were prepared gluten- free. I ordered my anniversary dinner at that moment and, after dinner that night, placed my order for breakfast. From that moment on, managers came out to specifically talk to me and make sure my needs were being met. Overall it was a great experience! I did not get sick- my biggest fear for this trip. If the Maitre D had met with me from the first afternoon like the email stated, then I would've given it 5 palms- a fantastic experience. But I was left to fend for myself for a bit so my rating reflects how I feel about that. I recommend this Bahamas trip to all out there who have to eat gluten- free like me. Just make sure you meet with someone about your diet from the get go!.... Oh- stay away from the gf waffles--- they are frozen and taste like cardboard! Everything else I ate was delicious. Kudos to the chefs and the staff!

Carnival Cruise line is the best!,

Carnival Cruise Line accomodated my husband who has celiac disease. Every night at dinner, the hostess would come over with the menu for the next night. He would then choose what he wanted so the chef could make his food gluten free. They even had warm, gluten free bread each night at dinner. And it tasted awesome - even to someone who doesn't have Celiac Disease. They are very understanding and made sure my husband was satisfied. The Special Needs department even called before we left for our cruise to tell us they have gluten free pizza in the dining room, gluten free bread, and gluten free pasta. We have done 2 cruises now with my husband being diagnosed. He did not get sick or cross contaminated at all. He was worried he would not be satisifed and would be hungry the whole cruise. Instead, he gained a few pounds. Cruising with Carnival is awesome and their dining room staff is the best!
