Freedom of the Seas -- pretty good gluten free options,

Well I let Royal Carribean know that I was Celiac when I scheduled my trip. They did a nice job helping make sure I had a nice dinner and options. The first night they only had a couple of options available for dinner and creme brulee for dessert. Then each night they'd have me order my dinner for the next night. They had some wonderful desserts like pear mouse and brought me multiple pieces of gluten free Bread every evening. They usually had a few options to pick from, and I was pretty happy with the diversity they offered for dinner. Lunches were a bit more difficult. I eat eggs, meat, and fruit for breakfast each morning in the dinning room. Then ate in the buffet for lunch where they usually had a few options that were labeled gluten free. The last day was pretty limited and dessert options were very limited in buffet at lunch time.

They did bring me a gluten free bun for me to take with me ashore for the first day's excursions to assure I had a gluten free option for lunch, mainly in form of burger on the supplied GF bun.

I did take some GF snacks on board and didn't have any issue with that. The agent had said to have doctor prepare a note about the food should their be any questions.

We also opted to take two bottles of wine and our own cork screw to drink in our cabin. Which is a nice option, if your on a budget. You'll want to read the rules related to this before you go.

I would gladly take another cruise with Royal Carribean. Although some might have found options limiting, I was happy and felt looked after. In fact the gluten free options on the ship were better than the most of the other restaurant options in this area of Florida.

Not very good gluten free dining on this cruise ship,

We went on our first cruise in Apr 2015 choosing Royal Caribbean based on the reviews. I am celiac and wanted to make sure I could eat on the trip. What I found on the ship is that meal choices were very limited. There are food items available on the promenade and ice cream by the pools. None of it was gluten free and there was no gluten free ice cream on the ship. There is the Windjammer cafe that is open during the day and had a small gluten free section with one or two items for lunch and breakfast. The only desserts available there were jello and Udi's prepackaged cookies. Once they run out of something such as pancakes, they are not at all happy about being asked to refill it.

We ate our dinners in the main dining room. The gluten free selection was limited and the first time I chose a daily special that said it could be made gluten free, I wound up doubled over in pain that evening from being dosed. After that I stuck to steak and baked potatoes even though the potatoes were always cold. They did have gluten free bread with dinner, and that was good. There were one or two appetizers available each night and they were pretty good. I did try to order different desserts the first 3 nights and, no matter what I ordered, I received some flavor of mousse the next evening with my meal.

We took one excursion that had meals provided. I wound up going hungry because the gluten free meal requested in advance wasn't provided and there was nothing available on the excursion.

We purchased the drink package but there was only one bar on the entire ship that had gluten free cider.

Overall, the cruise wasn't bad but the food aspect was difficult. They couldn't be trusted with anything but basics that were easily made gluten free. We had heard so much about the meals and the desserts but found that choices for a celiac were extremely limited. Based on this experience, we probably won't be cruising again.
