Our son has Celiac, and despite all of Chipotle's food items being gluten free (except for the flour tortillas), I sometimes hesitate taking him to any Chipotle location because of the potential risk for cross contamination, since their serving spoons for the meats, beans, etc. often touch the flour tortillas as the burritos are being made. But we found ourselves needing a quick dinner on this particular night on State Street in Santa Barbara, so we popped into this location of Chipotle. Fortunately, it was early, and there wasn't a long line. I spoke to the manager and asked if they had a fresh batch of steak, rice, and cheese that hadn't yet been put in the line (and dipped into with the spoons) for my son. He wanted a "bowl," but he could have also opted for soft or hard corn tacos or a salad. They were happy to oblige and cook fresh steak for him -- and they already had some fresh rice and cheese that hadn't yet been put in the line. They were very gracious about this. I think it would be the same at most Chipotle locations, especially if you hit them at a non-peak time when they aren't so busy. I know most people swear by Chipotle, in terms of getting a safe GF meal...I just feel better taking this extra step to avoid cross contamination for our Celiac son.
