Started by a mother of a Celiac son over 3 years ago. Her son had attended other camps, but wanted a camp that had amazing activities with a location that was centrally located and would therefore allow many parents to bring their gluten-free campers there. The location is Flat Rock, located on the banks of the Flat Rock River. Camp activities include an alpine tower, zip line, high and low rope courses, canoeing, swimming, horseback riding, team building, camp fires, gaga ball, archery, and crafts. This is an integrated camp, but the Food Services Director has a child with a gluten sensitivity issue and has worked in a major school corporation with multiple food allergy kids for several years. Flat Rock River YMCA works to instill the values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility in all campers and staff through everything they do. Camp is open to kids aged 7-17, and campers are grouped according to age and live in cabins with 7-9 other campers and two counselors. Campers choose from a wide range of activities that foster friendships and provide outdoor fun. Campers learn to make individual and group decisions with the help of their friends and their counselors.
