Gluten Free Getaways: Splendors of New Zealand & French Polynesia

Choose any date of travel (this is an individual itinerary, not a group trip). You may also choose to focus on only New Zealand OR French Polynesia (or opt for both).

Gluten Free Travel-Us has recently put together an incredible itinerary that combines the natural splendor of New Zealand -- its majestic beauty, rolling vineyards, and opportunities for adventure -- with the equally gorgeous islands of French Polynesia (specifically, Moorea and Tahiti). Gluten Free Travel-Us owner Ellen Morse has worked with local companies to ensure you are in good hands -- from the impressive accommodations to the care you'll receive regarding your gluten free diet. Since she is gluten free (and dairy free) herself (and has been for decades), Ellen is uniquely qualified to combine this awareness with her decades of experience as a travel advisor to provide the ultimate vacation for you. Whether you're looking for a family trip, a romantic getaway, or even a honeymoon, you'll want to consider this combination of sought-after destinations. As with all Ellen's suggested itineraries, the trip can be customized according to your tastes, desired length of stay, and budget. This is NOT a group can be taken at any time and with anyone of your choosing. You'll be able to relax and enjoy your trip, as Ellen will have taken care of all the details! Take a look at the details below, and give her a call to answer any specific questions, including specifics on pricing, which will depend on your city of departure, date of travel, and other travel preferences. Breakfast is included at your hotels each day.

Days 1: Departure

You will arrive in Queenstown and take a private vehicle transfer to your hotel. The remainder of the day is at leisure to explore what Queenstown has to offer.

Days 2: Queenstown Wine Tour

This day will be spent enjoying a gourmet scenic wine tour. You'll relax and enjoy fine cuisine and good company, sampling local cheeses and tasting premium cool-climate wines. You'll visit four vineyards in Gibbston Valley, Cromwell, and Bannockburn. You'll also tour New Zealand's largest underground wine cave. You'll be served a delightful platter lunch at one of the wineries and even visit Old Cromwell Town, if the schedule and weather permit. You'll take a stunning drive through the Kawarau Gorge learning about the early pioneering history. You'll also view the histornic Kawarau Bridge and the original AJ Hackett Bungy jump and stroll through Arrowtown.

Day 3: Queenstown Milford Sound Tour

A coach will take you to Milford Sound, while you sit back, relax and enjoy the magnificent scenery and informative commentary from your experienced local driver. You'll experience the best short walks and photo stops on the Milford Road and then connect with a Milford Sound cruise. You'll discover unique wildlife, towering waterfalls, and the majesty of Mitre Peak. This cruise offers an excellent viewing opportunity for wildlife, including seals, dolphins, and penguins. You'll get close enough to feel the full force from the powerful 15,000 year-old Stirling Falls. Lunch is included.

Day 4: Queenstown Hike and Jetboat

You'll take a half-day "Lakeshore Forest and Bird" walk that combines the best of native flora and fauna, with magnificent lake and mountain views. Your local guide will introduce you to an array of edible and medicinal plants used by Maori and European setters. This area has its own micro-climate, and since plants are protected from the elements, species are much larger than elsewhere. You'll stop for morning or afternoon tea/coffee on the lakeshore where you'll enjoy views across the lake to The Remarkables and Cecil Peak. Afterwards, you'll board the famous Hamilton Jetboat to experience an exhilarating ride on the Shotover River and into the Shotover River Canyons. You'll experience a full 360-degree spin and then resume speeding along the river. It is an adrenaline rush you'll never forget! You'll return to Queenstown via complimentary shuttle.

Day 5: Queenstown Biking

After breakfast, you'll begin a half-day Bike the Bridges tour in the historic gold mining village of Arrowtown. From here, you'll follow the beautiful Arrow River Trail downstream to where it meets the Kawarau River. You'll bike across two spectacular suspension bridges and then join the original miners trail that crosses the famous Kawarau suspension bridge, home of the world's first Bungy jump. You'll finish your ride with a relaxed and complimentary wine tasting in the Gibbston Valley, before being delivered back to Queenstown.

Day 6: Queenstown/Auckland -- Waiheke Island Tour

On this day, you'll take a private vehicle transfer to the airport to fly to Auckland and then take another private vehicle transfer to your hotel, where you will be staying for one night. You'll have a gourmet food and wine tour on Waiheke Island where you'll enjoy succulent fresh oysters, award-winning olive oil, and other locally produced specialty foods -- all accompanied by wines from some of the island's top boutique vineyards. Your guide will provide an entertaining and informative commentary along the way. You'll visit an award-winning olive oil mill, followed by two vineyards, each offering an array of gourmet tastes to accompany their wines. Treats may included oysters straight from Te Matuku Bay, wild honey, the famous local green herb spread, and artisan cheeses. Afterwards, you'll be treated to a platter lunch at one of the top vineyard restaurants and then return to take a ferry back to Auckland.

Day 7: Depart Auckland for Tahiti/Moorea

Again, you'll take a private transfer to the airport for a flight to Papette, the capital of French Polynesia on the island of Tahiti. You'll then take a private car transfer to the ferry terminal for a ferry over to the island of Moorea, where you will check into a resort for four nights.

Days 8: Moorea Snorkel Tour

A two-hour guided snorkeling tour at Moorea Logoonarium provides an excellent approach to the wildlife of the lagoon of Moorea. You'll see a multitude of tropical fish (sturgeons, parrot fish, butterfly fish, demoiselles, jackfish, stingrays, and black tip sharks).

Days 9: Moorea 4WD Safari

You'll set off on a 4-wheel-drive half-day safari to explore the volcano's internal crater and incredible landscapes. You'll even get to visit a pineapple plantation, Moorea's Lycee Agricole (agricultural school) and its huge vanilla, banana, grapefruit, and lemon plantations. Afterwards, you'll head to a marae, buildings and grounds that belong to a Maori tribe. Then you'll drive to the Belvedere for stunning views of Cook and Opunohu bays.

Days 10: Moorea

You will have this day free to enjoy at your leisure.

Days 11: Day of departure

After breakfast, you'll take a resort transfer to the ferry terminal to return to Papette and then take a private transfer to the airport for your flight back home.
