Gluten Free Travel-Us is pleased to unveil a brand new gluten free itinerary to Costa Rica, in collaboration with Condor Tours and Travel. Ellen has been working with Condor Tours and Travel for many years, and they are always very supportive of the needs of her gluten free travelers. The itinerary below is but one example of the sites you can see when visiting this beautiful country. It can be altered based on your own timing, budget, and desired length of stay. Ellen and Condor Travel have vetted the recommended hotels and restaurants to ensure they have the knowledge and experience to keep their very special gluten free travelers healthy.


This itinerary includes a meet and greet upon arrival at San Jose airport, all private transfers, accommodations at deluxe hotels, gluten free meals each day (noted below), and the specific visits/excursions detailed below. Pricing is always based upon number of travelers, time of year, and exact itinerary.


Day 1: Arrival Day

Arrival at San Jose Costa Rica (SJO) airport. You'll be greeted at the airport and take a private transfer to the hotel in San Jose. Stay overnight at a local Deluxe Hotel.


Day 2: Pacuare Whitewater Rafting

Early in the morning, you'll be picked up for whitewater rafting at Pacuare River (Class III & IV rapids). Because its lush rainforests and exotic wildlife that surround it, Pacuare has been named one of the Top 10 river trips in the world by National Geographic. Pacuare is also considered one of the nicest rivers to practice rafting. You will enjoy an exciting 1-1/2 hour river rafting tour to the Pacuare Lodge, where you will enjoy a two-night stay at Costa Rica's premier eco-lodge. After lunch, you'll participate in an optional canopy tour (not included in package price) or waterfall hike, or simply relax in your private bungalow. After a candlelight dinner, you'll visit the upstairs lounge for a cocktail before retiring to a restful night's sleep. Considered a pioneer in sustainable tourism, Pacuare Lodge boasts luxury accommodation and service within a relaxing atmosphere and is surrounded by lush rainforests. It is a great option for nature lovers who appreciate a high level of service, as well as high quality food and deluxe lodging. (Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be provided).

Day 3: Guided Walk Tour

You'll wake up to bird song and the soothing sound of the river nearby. You'll head over to the main lodge for a delicious breakfast of home-made bread, tropical fruits, yogurt, eggs, pancakes, cereal, juice and coffee. The lodge employs a resident naturalist guide who will provide you with unique insights into the plant and animal world. After breakfast, you will take a guided hiking tour through the emerald rainforest visiting the beautiful Pacuare Waterfall. You'll have the afternoon free to rest or to take an optional tour. You'll stay for a second night at Pacuare Lodge. (Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be provided.)

Day 4: Pacuare Whitewater Rafting -- Arenal Volcano

Today you will enjoy an exciting 2 hour whitewater rafting trip on the Pacuare River (Class III & IV rapids). Your guided trip will start directly at the lodge where you will take the rafts and go down the river, enjoying its incredible natural beauty. This trip will finish in Siquirres, where you will have some time to change clothes and get ready for your private transfer to Arenal Volcano area, which is about a 3 hour drive. You'll arrive at the Arenal Volcano area late in the afternoon. You'll stay overnight at Arenal Nayara Hotel (Casita Deluxe). (Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be provided.)


Day 5: Arenal Volcano Hiking Tour -- Tabacon Hot Springs

Your morning will be spent at leisure to enjoy the facilities of the hotel. In the afternoon, you'll be picked up for the guided Arenal Volcano tour and a visit to Tabacon Hot Springs. The majestic Arenal Volcano, one of the most active volcanos in the Western Hemisphere, constitutes the main attraction in this northern region. Its perfect-formed cone and constant eruptions of lava impress visitors from all over the world. After your visit to this interesting volcano, you will head to Tabacon Hot Springs to enjoy its relaxing hot spring pools and a nice dinner. You'll return back to the hotel after dinner. (Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be provided.)

Day 6: Lost Canyon (Waterfall Rappel) Tour

In the morning, you'll get picked up for the Lost Canyon Tour. This half-day activity takes place in an incredible canyon just 15 minutes from La Fortuna. There are spectacular views of Arenal Volcano and EIGHT amazing tropical waterfalls (5 of which you will rappel down). Two of the waterfalls are more than 50 meters high! You'll return to the hotel around 1:00 pm and have the afternoon free. (Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be provided.)

Day 7: Departure Day

At the hour of your convenience, you'll take a private transfer to SJO Airport located about 2 1/2 hour drive from the hotel. (Breakfast will be provided.)
