Gluten Free Dining at Sky City restaurant atop Seattle's Space Needle,

Since we were only in Seattle for an afternoon and evening en route to Whistler, British Columbia, we (okay, mostly our kids) wanted to make a stop at Seattle's Space Needle a top priority. About two months before our departure, I decided to check into whether their rotating restaurant, called Sky City, under the observation deck had any gluten free options. Not only was I impressed with the very sophisticated range of food they offered (albeit very pricy), but I was thrilled to find out many things were available gluten free -- and were even marked as such on their daily menu (although you won't find these markings on their menu posted on their website -- but they are on the menu in the restaurant). I had the woman taking our reservation over the phone note our gluten free needs, and she assured me they handled gluten free requests daily. Although the prices seemed high at this restaurant, we learned that admission to the observation deck was complimentary for restaurant diners. Therefore, you essentially "save" $19 per adult and $12 per child when you dine at the restaurant. So when you account for that in the price of the entrees, it makes them seem more in line with the prices of other nice restaurants. I have to say we totally lucked out with the weather that day. It could not have been more perfect for a trip up the Space Needle. Even our cousin, who lives in Seattle and showed us around for the afternoon -- and joined us for dinner -- was in shock to have such a gorgeous day (50 degrees and SUNNY) in March. After enjoying the outdoors for most of the afternoon, we shot up to the Space Needle's observation deck in a smooth, fast elevator and had a clear, 360 degree view of the Seattle skyline. Wow! We even saw Mt. Ranier, which is not always visible in this cloudy, rainy city -- at least at this time of year. The sun set as we ate dinner, and then we were treated to the twinkling lights of the city below. The food was as superb as the view. Notable gluten free choices were the beef tenderloin (although the bordelaise sauce was off limits), salmon, and pork chop, all prepared in interesting, modern, and sophisticated ways. Our server was extremely courteous and professional. It was really a wonderfully relaxing and enjoyable evening.
