I have found the bakery of my dreams in Sperryville, Virginia. Triple Oak Bakery, a mere 65 miles from my home in Falls Church is a dedicated gluten free facility. The bakery never makes gluten products so is safe from cross contamination. The basis for all the products is fresh cream, milk and butter from a local dairy, produce from the local farms. If other food sensitivities are an issue, contact Brooke about her special products. The Sperryville address is the actual baking facility. Brooke and all the little baking elves will be busily rolling pie crusts, frosting cakes, forming breadsticks, cutting out biscuits. As of yet there is no patron seating but order ahead for pickup. Just a few miles from Skyline Drive you can enjoy a picnic with some spectacular views. Don't forget to bring a cooler as you will want to take a supply of goodies back. Most items will stay fresh for several days in the refrigerator or I pop everything I'm not eating today in the freezer to take out as I need. I think of the spanakopeta as my two-minute-$5 lunch. It goes straight from the freezer and in two minutes is piping hot. The center filling of feta and spinach is soft and flavorful and the crust is flaky--all that butter. For his birthday treat, I gave my husband one of the apple turnovers that had been made that morning at the bakery. Not being restricted to a gluten free diet, he can test whether any of the gluten free products I bring home pass his high standards. He's liked everything from Triple Oak Bakery. We still haven't decided if we liked the plain dinner rolls or the rosemary garlic dinner rolls better. I'm just happy to be able to have a dinner roll with my salad that tasted so good. After 27 years on a gluten free diet in the last few months I've had food I never thought to taste again. If a trip to Sperryville is not in your immediate future. Triple Oak Bakery products are available at retail outlets throughout Rapahannock County, in Warrenton and Culpepper and beginning in June can be ordered for delivery to northern Virginia and the Washington, D. C. area. All the details are on the website as well as detailed driving directions to the bakery. I've become one of the charter members of the Baker's Share program that just began deliveries to my area in June. On the 2nd and 4th Saturdays, I receive a package of goods that includes some of the seasonal products as the asparagus quiche and the raspberry rhubarb tart, individual serving sizes of cakes and brownies, bagels and scones and even some frozen dough products that I can use to bake my own pizza, make my own cookies and pies. As Triple Oak Bakery expands its delivery area to northern Virginia, I hope to be able to convince the owners of my favorite restaurants to provide her products. I'd love to be able to have a flat bread with my gyro and a piece of baklava, a scone with my Sunday brunch omelet, a pastry at the bookstore coffee shop or a cupcake at the food court in the mall. Eating out should be fun for everyone, even those on a gluten free diet. When that happens, I'll be sure to let you know where to find these treats. Over the past few months, i've made several trips to the bakery

I am not sure how I stumbled onto this gluten-free bakery as it is in the middle of nowhere.... but I'm glad I did. I started off with creampuffs. I almost teared up as it melted on my tongue. The cupcakes were excellent. I also tried some of her sandwich flats. Not what I expected, but still pretty good as this was the first time I was able to eat a sandwich in a long time. My fav so far is her stromboli....WOW!!!! Never thought I could eat that again. But there is a world of different local and international favorites that I have not been able to try. Every time I come here, I try to get something different (and maybe a creampuff or two). Go to her website, order some of your favs and make a trip out to Sperryville. Don't blink cause you don't want to miss out on a bit of heaven at the foothills of the Shenandoahs.
