Ruby Tuesday now has gluten free buns for their burgers! Yeah! And, in fact, they have a pretty decent range of gluten free options on their menu. In the restaurant, ask for the binder with the gluten free (and other "allergens") listing. Better yet, take a few minutes to go on to their website to view your options before going. It's well just have to know where to go to find the GF options. First, click on Menu, and then choose "Allergen Information" from the right hand column. Then you'll be asked to enter your town or zip. Choose your location, which should come up in the listing. Then you click on whatever items you're looking to avoid (gluten, soy, wheat, tree nuts, etc.). Then you can view your options by category. Each category (seafood, steaks, burgers, etc.) has an "Okay to Eat" and "Okay with Modifications" listing. They even have gluten free pasta now, too. Kudos to this national chain for recognizing the gluten free community -- and others dining with other (often multiple) allergens. They make it easy! Just to be clear, I always let the server know to put an allergy alert on the ticket -- that we are gluten free not by choice, but out of necessity.

After reading about Ruby Tuesday in Bob and Ruth's newsletter this past month, we decided to give it try. Although they do not have a gluten-free menu, per se, there are many items on the dinner menu that are gluten-free, including their fork- tender ribs, most steaks (although they sometimes need to be requested without the sauce), plenty of burger options (triple prime, ultimate chicken, blackened fish, classic, smokehouse, turkey, bison -- just request them without the roll). They also have some chicken and seafood dishes that are g-f as well (either as is, or with minimal modifications). The mashed potatoes (to-die-for) are gluten-free, as are the wonderful fresh stamed broccoli, premium baby green beans, baked potatoes, coleslaw and sauteed portabella mushrooms. I was there with my 5-year-old son, who is the one in the family with Celiac. Needless to say, there wasn't really anything g-f on the kids menu, except for a burger without the bun, so I ordered him the petite sirloin from the main menu, along with the mashed potatoes and green beans, all of which he LOVED. I had the "classic" baby back ribs, which were really good as well (and I'm not usually impressed with most ribs I order). These were the very slightest bit dry, but tender and tasty, with just the right combination of spice and sweetness. I was so excited that my son could try them...although I think being five, they were a bit spicy for his tastebuds. I'm looking forward to going back with the whole family and trying more of the items that are g- f. The Chicken Fresco (as is) and Chicken Bella (with no sauce) look especially good. Obviously, there are locations all over the U.S., and each manager/chef will probably differ in their range of knowledge about g-f food preparation (the manager at this particular location knew very little). So it is up to you to help educate them and be vigilant about explaining cross- contamination, etc. I'd always recommend taking a Dining Card (as we did -- one of Triumph Dining's American Cuisine cards) so that the manager and chef can read it and completely understand your needs.
