You aren't very limited at Tom's Blue Moon Bar-B-Que when it comes to getting all the really good gluten-free grub you want. My wife and I have had the pulled pork, chicken, and beef brisket: all really, really good. The other options may be just as delicious, but we have not yet been sufficiently tempted to stray from our usuals. Most everything is Gluten Free except the obvious things to avoid like the buns and the maccaroni and cheese. The Texas toast and corn bread have wheat in them too. But other than that, just loosen your belt, and get ready to chow down. The french fries are made from fresh Idaho potatoes that come out of great big 50 pound sacks. They don't cook anything else in the oil except those wonderful french fries. We get so tired of places that cross-contaminate otherwise perfectly good fries, but Tom's are a cut above the regular fries. Make sure your (almost as good as Mama's) baked beans don't have too much pulled pork in them. You'll get more than enough pulled pork on your plate if that's what you order. No one need go away hungry from here. All the portions are quite generous. My standard meal is pulled pork, cole slaw (creamy style), and baked beans. And I typically get a side of french fries to split with Mama. We don't drink alcohol, but they have a bar if you want something alcoholic. Tom's Blue Moon Bar-B-Que also has free peanuts in the shell served out of the trunk of a pink Cadilac, but the service is so quick you won't get a chance to eat many unless you go at the peak dinner time. The atmosphere is somewhere between a Cracker Barrel and Texas Roadhouse without the taxidermy. Talking of pickled stuff, be sure to try the pickled okra. No really, try one. They're near the register next to the olives that are also free to sample. Get a little cup full if you like. I honestly had to check the menu to see if they offered desserts. I never felt like I had room for any after eating at Tom's. It turns out that they don't have any desserts on the menu. No great loss, I suppose. There is also a location in Lebanon, TN. I think that was the original one. Lebanon is maybe 25 miles east of Nashville on I-40. The Hendersonville location is 6 or 7 miles off I-65 just north of Nashville. If you are tired of the usual roadies' food, it's well worth a little side trip to eat at Tom's Blue Moon Bar-B-Que.
