Fantastic gluten-free AND allergen-free dining in Montreal,

If you’re traveling to Montreal, you’ve got to stop at a totally gluten-free restaurant in the Latin Quarter called Zero 8 (zero8.com). The name actually indicates the number of Canadian allergens that the restaurant is free of; these include gluten, dairy, soy, eggs, nuts, peanuts, fish/seafood, and sesame. Never one to purposefully avoid dairy, I was a little concerned about finding something tasty to eat at Zero 8. After checking out the fairly interesting menu, I opted for the specialty meal of Montreal—steak and “frittes,” aka French fries. Most places in Montreal do not have dedicated fryers for fries, so the ones I enjoyed at Zero 8 were the only ones I had during the trip. Both my steak and my fries were delicious, but the side order of chickpea bread and cinnamon apple cake dessert were both incredible! Probably the most amazing aspect of the restaurant is the flat screen TV above the bar that runs a loop video explaining how many people have celiac and food allergies. The text is shown in both French and English, and the sight was a shock to see in the bustling and very popular restaurant environment of Zero 8. In addition to a varied sans gluten menu, Zero 8 was the only place I visited that served gluten-free beer. The brand is La Messagre (lesbieresnouvellefrance.com), which is made at a microbrewery in the province of Quebec. I later purchased one of the tasty beers at Rachelle-Bery (rachelle-bery.com), a wonderful health food store several locations around the city. The local chain is well known for its sans gluten offerings. Review by Tiffany Janes at Delight Gluten-Free Magazine www.DelightGlutenFree.com

This restaurant provides an entire menu that is food allergy friendly. There is no fish or seafood, peanuts, nuts, sesame seeds, milk, soy, eggs, wheat or any grain containing gluten (barley, oat, rye and triticale). I have been here so many times, and I keep going back because I know that this place is totally safe to eat at. The menu is outstanding. Everything I have eaten has been a magnificent meal. They bake their own bread, and make a range of delicious desserts. Best of all you don't have to check what is gluten free because everything is. They also do a table de hote, which is a special menu of the day. I can definitely recommend the charcuterie for 2 as a starter. I had lamb burgers with fries, lasagne, duck, pasta, chocolate lava cakes, lemon tart, roast beef, poutine (Quebec speciality). I can't recommend this restaurant enough, if you can't decide where to eat out in Montreal definitely eat here.

Zero8 Resto-Bar in Montreal for gluten-free, allergy-free dining,

This is a unique place that promises safety in writing - not just gluten but "Zero 8" stands for safe from the 8 major allergens: 1. Fish and seafood 2. Peanuts 3. Nuts 4. Sesame seeds 5. Milk 6. Soya 7. Eggs 8. Wheat or any grain containing gluten (barley, oat, rye and triticale) The person who does not have any allergy will be as happy as their companion, and the wine list is terrific. Enjoy a drink at the Z bar, sit on the terrace in the summer - location is a huge hot spot in the city. Your safety is absolutely guaranteed and they have recently added sulfites to their list. I only wish there were a few more vegan options, but still 5 palms - it's a great spot

I just wanted to share a great gluten-free dining experience that I had! I was in Montreal (Canada) last weekend and came across a restaurant called Zero8. Basically, all of their food is free of the top 8 allergens. It was so nice to eat at an upscale restaurant and have the entire menu to choose from. The food was delicious and service was excellent! You should definitely try out Zero8 if you are in Montreal. SUBMITTED BY DC CELIACS SUPPORT GROUP http://www.dcceliacs.com

This is a great place to be! Imagine eating anything you want on the menu!!! We even bring the grandchildren allergic to eggs, nuts and milk products, none of the food contains those items. It's an allergy free restaurant free of 8 different allergenic foods. And as our son says, "Even people with no food restrictions can have a great meal!" Great choice and great food and ooooh!...the bread...we always buy an extra order to bring home. We highly recommend this place when in Montreal.
