We recently went skiing at Seven Springs Mountain Resort. While we didn't stay at the main lodge, we did dine at their Slopeside restaurant in the lodge twice (once for dinner and once for breakfast). Both experiences were great. I had called the week before we visited to talk with a chef about what our son's gluten free options would be. We had visited there years ago and had a good experience, and I figured that now, years later, it would only be better. And I was right. The chef and manager (both of whom I spoke to on the phone) assured me that many, many things on their special Saturday night "Farmer's Buffet" and Sunday Brunch buffet were naturally gluten free. They don't use flour to thicken any of their sauces, and all their salad dressings are gluten free. When we arrived for dinner, we asked for the head chef, Sandro, who walked us through the buffet, pointing out all the things our son could have. There was a carving station with beef tenderloin/filet and roasted pork loin. There were chicken legs roasted with a strawberry glaze that our son adored. He kept raving about them. Although he didn't have the salmon, I did, and it was wonderful (and gluten free). We also enjoyed the Green Beans Almandine and roasted potatoes. There was a huge salad bar, and almost everything except the pasta salad and croutons was gluten free. There was also a seafood bar with clams, oysters, and shrimp cocktail. About the only things he couldn't have were the roasted vegetable lasagna and the pasta with scallops and mushrooms. There was also a pasta bar, but of course, no gluten free pasta. However, there was MORE than enough to eat at this buffet. Plus, it was all really high-quality, fresh-made, great-tasting food. Many buffets don't serve high-quality food, but this was not the case at Slopeside. They even source many of the meats, vegetables, and lettuces locally. The dessert buffet was impressive as well. Even though the only gluten free items for dessert were Creme Brûlée and Chocolate Mousse, both were especially good. Our son had two of the small ramekins of Creme Brûlée! The items served at the buffet change week-to-week. Other items the chef mentioned as sometimes being on the buffet were short ribs and lamb chops (both gluten free). The next day, Sunday, we took a break from skiing early in the afternoon to enjoy their Brunch Buffet. Similarly, we had a chef walk us through the buffet to point out what our son could and could not eat. The chefs were very helpful, and like the previous evening, even offered to make our son anything he wanted if it wasn't on the buffet. That was not necessary, as again, there was plenty our son could have. There was an omelet station, to which he went first. Then, there was sliced beef and King Crab legs. Again, there were meats, fish, potatoes, and vegetables that were all gluten well as gluten free deli meats and cheese, a large salad bar, and the same two gluten free desserts. The only thing missing was gluten free bread (but who needs it with all this other great food?). The chef had told me on the phone that gluten free pancakes are typically available upon request, so if that's something that appeals to you, you could request those in advance. This restaurant also offers extensive a la carte menus for each meal, but we wanted to take advantage of the variety of high-quality food (and good value) of the weekend buffets. The dinner buffet was $35.95 for adults (and half price for kids), and the brunch buffet was $26.95 (and half price for kids). I'd recommend making reservations, just to be sure you can dine when you want. On some nights the restaurant does get booked up, or you may have a wait without a reservation.

We had a really nice dinner at Slopeside restaurant at Seven Springs resort. I had called in advance of our trip and spoke to one of the head chefs, Bill, who recommended that this would be the best restaurant out of their many restaurants at the resort for a gluten-free dining experience. He said they received this request often and would be able to take care of us. When we arrived at the restaurant and reminded the hostess of our gluten-free need, she sent the chef over to our table, and he was very gracious. He mentioned that many items on the menu could be prepared GF if they weren't already -- or that he could prepare something else at our request. Our son wanted steak, which is pretty easy since it's naturally GF (unless there's a marinade, which there wasn't in this case). When we discussed choices of sides, the chef offered to make a fresh batch of fries in a separate pot of oil so they'd be gluten-free. Our son was thrilled. He also was served a side of perfectly cooked broccoli. The restaurant has a salad/soup/bread/dessert bar for only $4 extra, so our whole family opted for this. This also allowed our son to get a nice salad, and although they did not have any GF bread, they DID have two wonderful gluten-free desserts: a creme brle and a chocolate mousse, both of which he devoured! If your taste is more adventurous than a New York strip steak, they had other amazing things on their menu which could probably be modified to be GF, like the Pistachio Roasted Chicken, which I ordered (served over black pepper linguine, since I'm not GF, only our son), but they could probably serve it over mashed potatoes, which we confirmed were GF. There was also the Lavendar Encrusted Filet of Beef with Saffron Demi Glace. I was tempted by that, but alas, I could only select one entree! Again, many of their entrees appeared on the surface to be GF -- or if not, the chef said modifications could be made. Their menu does change every few weeks, so it's likely you'll find a whole new set of tempting selections. Just ask to speak with whichever chef is in the kitchen that night, and I am sure you'll be in good hands!
