As a person who dines frequently in Portland and is met with many questioning looks when I ask if they have any gluten free crackers or options, the Bridgewater Bistro makes eating GF easy and hassle free! Most menu items are either already gluten free or can be prepared GF and are easily identifiable on the menu. The waitstaff all understand what being gluten free means and, once they know you are GF, they are quick to bring you house made GF bread and point out the wonderful desserts! My husband and I go here often because eating there is just so easy! I can get appetizers like gluten free fried calamari or any sandwich on the lunch menu with GF bread! Even the soups of the day are typically made so all customers can have it...even the GF customers. I highly recommend this restaurant!

We love this restaurant! We eat here every time we're on the Oregon coast. Not only do they make eating gluten free easy, but the food is amazing, it's super convenient location right off the highway under the Astoria Bridge, and the waterfront view is breathtaking. What more could you want?? One of the owners (and two of their kids) are gluten free, so they know what it's like to dine out GF. The menu has tons of options that are gluten free (all marked on the menu so you can choose easily) - and they're also totally willing to work with you to make a non-GF item work for you with alternatives. They accommodate special requests with warmth, and are very knowledgeable about substitutions. Owner Ann Kischner (gluten-free herself) is the restaurant's main baker and makes sure there are always GF bread and dessert options in abundance. Be sure to save room! My husband's favorite menu item is the Cougar Burger ordered with a gluten free bun, accompanied by the Clam and Mussel Chowder. I love the Asiago Chicken Sandwich (with GF bun). We've also had great GF steaks, fresh fish, pasta dishes. Great variety of choices, a changing seasonal menu, and we've never had anything we didn't enjoy. The restaurant is also super versatile for us - you can come in casual if you're traveling or come in for a fancier dinner if staying nearby. They have a mezzanine upstairs which is more formal, and a more casual downstairs and bar area. You get an awesome view of the river and boat traffic from all three. We can't recommend the Bridgewater more highly! Tell your GF friends to include it in their travel plans when going to (or passing through) Astoria. You won't be disappointed!

Gluten free heaven at restaurant in Astoria, Oregon,

What fun to go to a restaurant and not feel deprived while eating gluten-free! Every menu item was marked as GF and at least 80% of the selections were gluten free down to 2 kinds of gluten free cupcakes that were every mother's special treat. Our waiter cheerfully brought out special orders and answered questions.
