My wife who is celiac and I landed in Asheville and wanted to grab lunch. About a month ago I upgraded phones and had to reinstall all my apps. I did not reinstall this app, and in a rush, I downloaded and installed another app from the Apple App Store that was near the top of the list.

The other app listed this business as gluten free so we let google maps take us there.

After we were seated we discovered that this restaurant like so many others is GF only because the serve plain salads. No entrees were GF. Most were battered and fried.

They may use good techniques in the kitchen which has given them 5 stars, but that does not mean you can get a full meal. We should have stopped at Chipotle across the street.

I later found this app and reinstalled it to save my skin. And deleted the other one.

Tupelo Honey Cafe serves Southern-style food made from scratch, with fresh ingredients. The menu offers many options that are made without gluten, and these are marked GF. Among these selections are: spinach salad (with one of the many gluten free dressings), Carolina mountain trout, shrimp and grits, and carrot kale slaw. Many of the side items are gluten free, as well. It is also noted that several other entrees can be made gluten free upon request, such as the roasted duck breast, char grilled beef tenderloin, and the porterhouse pork chop. Discuss your options with the server. Take a look at the dinner menu here:

At GlutenFreeTravelSite, a restaurant or other business must typically be “reviewed” to appear on our site. We have thousands of gluten-free reviewers that have submitted feedback to our site — and have therefore helped guide thousands of others in the gluten-free community who rely on our site for honest, personal, and detailed dining and travel guidance. We have made an exception, however, for restaurants that have been trained through the National Foundation for Celiac Awareness’s GREAT Kitchens Program. We list restaurants like this one — even without a personal review — because they have been rigorously trained and vetted using NFCA’s strict protocols. GREAT Kitchens provides a “Train the Trainer” course for chefs and food service managers which gives them the knowledge and tools to educate their entire kitchen staff on safe gluten-free food handling and preparation.
