Gluten Free Fondue at restaurant in Hoboken, NJ,

The Melting Pot is located just over the river from New York City on the waterfront of Hoboken, New Jersey, although they do have locations nationwide. Ten minutes on the PATH train and you can be transported to a scenic view of Manhattan and eat a four course, gluten-free, cheesy, chocolaty, meal. We started our big night out with Cheddar Cheese Fondue, which the waiters put together right in front of you at the table in a special gluten-free pot. It is made out of delectable aged, medium-sharp Cheddar and Emmentaler Swiss cheeses, lager beer, garlic, and seasonings. To make it gluten-free they substitute the lager beer for yummy gluten-free Redbridge beer! For dippers, we were given a multitude of vegetables, including cauliflower, carrots, broccoli, and apples. They were sure to not bring bread anywhere near us so crumbs couldn't contaminate our cheese. Corn chips are substituted, however many locations are now offering gluten-free bread, so be sure to ask your server if your location has it in stock. For the second course we cleansed our palates with healthy salads to clear the way for the rest of our heavy meal to come. I enjoyed the Spinach Mushroom Salad, which is naturally gluten-free. This is one of my favorite salads and I like it so much that I have tried to recreate it at home. It has fresh spinach, baby Portobello mushrooms, red onion, chopped bacon, and Roma tomatoes, with a warm Burgundy Shallot Vinaigrette. My friend had the California Salad, also on the gluten-free menu with mixed baby salad greens, Roma tomatoes, walnuts, and Gorgonzola cheese with Raspberry Black Walnut Vinaigrette. Next up came the meat course, where we had our choice of meats, seafood, and vegetables and our choice of cooking liquid for the table. My friend chose the Land and Sea with New York Strip Steak, chicken, and white shrimp. I got the Seafood Trio with white shrimp, scallops, and cedar-plank salmon. We chose one of the simplest and healthiest cooking styles, which is the Court Bouillon, just simple, seasoned, vegetable broth. All of the meat dishes also come with vegetables including mushrooms, potatoes, and broccoli, as well as a variety of gluten-free dipping sauces such as Gorgonzola Port, Green Goddess, Curry, and Ginger Plum. As if we weren't already full enough, dessert was still to come and we had the hard task of choosing from a plethora of chocolate fondues, each more tempting than the last. We finally settled on The Original, which featured the Melting Pot's signature milk chocolate with a swirl of crunchy peanut butter. Dessert fondue is served with strawberries, bananas, marshmallows, and pineapple. It was the perfect way to finish off an evening of decadent gluten-free eating, and on my next visit I might have to go back to get more than one dessert!
