After I booked this vacation, I was diagnosed with gluten intolerance. I was nervous for this vacation, so I called the cruise line and asked about making special requests for food. The staff sent me the paperwork to fill out describing my special request. I received a letter the first afternoon in my stateroom asking me to talk to the Maitre D’ at dinner about my special request. The first night I went to the dining room and asked to speak to the Maitre D’. When I informed him of my gluten-free dining, he explained it would not be a problem, and how the cruise ship works to make gluten free dining easy. Every night when I ate at the dining room, I would be allowed to see the next day's lunch and dinner menu. I would place my order the night before for anything on the menu and they would make it gluten free for me. I would give them my cabin number and it was very easy. There was always a flourless chocolate cake available for dessert or some of the regular menu items. The assistant Maitre D’ would often bring me out toasted gluten free bread to eat when the table would be eating bread. I typically only ate dinner in the dining room. The breakfast buffet included eggs made to order, bacon, sausage, yogurt, and fresh fruit. One morning I asked for gluten free toast, and the staff went down to the dining room, prepared the toast and delivered it to me. At lunch for the buffet, they would usually have some form of protein that I could eat; I occasionally did need to ask how something was prepared. There was always a salad bar as well. Overall, I was impressed with the service for gluten free dining on the ship. I was nervous going in and the experience was much better than anticipated.
