Gluten free dining at Italian restaurant in Boston's North End,

This is an Italian restaurant in Boston's North End that has a huge selection of gluten free options on their menu. Most pasta selections can be made with a choice of corn-based gluten free pastas (penne, spaghetti, rigatoni, fusilli) for a small upcharge. They also offer gluten free pizza, which our son ordered. He ordered it with pepperoni and chicken. The toppings were very generous, and the pizza was very good. They don't mention anything about gluten free on their website, which is odd, but their menu goes into detail about all they can do. They say they can make virtually any dish gluten free. They also offer gluten free beer. I'd recommend this restaurant for a nice taste of Italian dining in Boston's North End.

My wife and another couple dined here last night. I am a celiac and she is gluten intolerant and checking the website in advance it indicated gluten free pastas and pizza were available. When we arrived the menu indicated "almost any meal can be made gluten free."

I advised the server that two of us needed to eat gluten free and how should we proceed, and she pointed to "gluten free pasta" on the menu. I asked her how they could make adjustments to other dishes and she looked perplexed and said, "Gluten free...that means you just can't eat breadcrumbs, right?"

We became wary and ordered very simple dishes. My wife's pizza was good but was clearly made on Udi's bread and could have been made at home for a fraction of the price. We have had far better gluten free pizza elsewhere. My friend and I each got fettuccine alfredo, mine with gluten free pasta, and the pasta was fine, but out sauce was chunky and made with ricotta cheese. I had a stomach ache and was up all night and am not sure if it was accidental contamination or the heaviness of the meal. The restaurant prides itself on huge portions but we both finished ours within minutes.

Everyone else seemed to have a great time and enjoyed huge portions, but those eating gluten free should expect to research the menu themselves and should expect limited options. The staff was not helpful.
