New restaurant in Potomac, Maryland with gluten-free menu,

We celebrated a family birthday at this relatively new restaurant in Park Potomac. Founding Farmers has another location in Foggy Bottom (DC) and one at the Georgetown Waterfront that is being renovated after a major flood last year. They have a gluten-free menu (not on their website, but ask for it when you arrive at the restaurant), which had quite a few options on it. Most of their fish preparations are GF, and they have many entree salads, steaks, and other choices. In terms of sides, the fries are apparently gluten-free, as was the delicious butternut squash risotto, which our GF son ordered instead of the mashed potatoes as a side dish with his filet mignon. They also allowed him to get a side salad instead of the vegetable of the day, which was root vegetables. They had a wonderful gluten-free flourless chocolate cake for dessert, which BOTH our boys devoured. I have to say I wasn't overly impressed with this restaurant, however. It was very busy, and a bit noisy (and we were seated upstairs, which was actually probably quieter than the main level). Our service was a bit spotty. We had to ask for certain things several times, and our salads showed up without all the trimmings that were supposed to be in them (grapes, figs, almonds, avocado). We were served plates of mostly lettuce with a few tomatoes. I don't know if they just got the salad order wrong, but we had to ask for the toppings to add ourselves after the fact. The combination of the mashed potatoes (which were not very good) and the root vegetables (both served with many of the entrees) was weird, because the root vegetables were mostly potatoes! My rockfish had some small bones in it and wasn't the most generous portion. The steaks, however, were wonderful, and cooked to order (nice pink/red "medium"). The non-GF folks at our table that ordered pasta (mushroom ravioli and lobster mac-n-cheese) really enjoyed it. But there was no GF pasta. We might try this place again but perhaps at a slower time (Sunday nights apparently are very busy now that football season is over). They do seem to understand gluten-free, so we had confidence in the food our son was eating. So essentially our disappointment had nothing to do with the gluten-free aspect of the meal...it was more with the service and a few disappointing side dishes/salads.
