Amazing Gluten Free Cruise to the Caribbean on Allure of the Seas,

This was our 15th cruise and after being diagnosed with Celiac, and having very bad Gluten Free experience with Carnival, I decided to give Royal Caribbean a try. I am very glad that I did. Allure of the Seas is the most beautiful ship I have ever been on. From the moment I got on the ship I knew I was going to be happy. I ate at the buffet with the help of the head chef every day and experienced no problems. Dinner was also amazing because if I didn't pick my meal the night before, there was something on the menu that was labelled Gluten Free every night. There were 3 different types of bread every night. I was so happy because the bread was almost as good as regular bread. Everyone in the dining room was concerned about whether I enjoyed my meal and how I was feeling. You can eat in the hot dog restaurant (GF buns) and the sandwich restaurant on Central Park had Gluten Free food also. I am hooked on Royal Caribbean! I have now booked a cruise for February, 2014 on the Vision of the Seas. The scale to rate is 1-5 palms and believe you me I would vote 10 palms if I could!

Great Service and Gluten Free Dining aboard the Norwegian Spirit cruise ship,

I had a wonderful gluten-free experience on the Norwegian Spirit. I let them know in advance as requested and they went out of their way to be helpful. The breakfast and lunch and evening snack buffets on the top deck had a wonderful variety of foods to choose from, so no problem there. When I asked about gluten free bread, they brought me some delicious gluten free muffins. I knew from experience that I probably wouldn't be able to eat in any other dining area for dinner except for the main dining room. They were wonderful there, bringing out the next night's menu from which I could choose my meal. There were various delicious meals from which to choose every day. I didn't feel slighted in the least. We who are in the GF minority can only expect so much from such a huge enterprise.

Response of Complaint regarding gluten free experience on Carnival Cruise,

I recently wrote of my disastrous cruise in July, 2012 on the Carnival Victory due to Carnival claiming they could accommodate gluten free, only to find out they couldn't. I wrote a 2 page letter to the CEO, when I got nowhere with the staff, and below is Carnival's response (or lack of it): Mr. Arison has forwarded your letter to my attention for handling as concerns of this nature fall under my purview. It's my pleasure to respond on his behalf. I'm sorry you feel that our call center agents and supervisory staff did not give your issues the attention they deserve. I can assure you that the concerns you've raised have been addressed by the appropriate management team and reviewed thoroughly. Nonetheless, we're very sorry your dining experience was not all you'd hoped it would be and that our genuine concern has not made the impact as intended. We are also concerned with the poor impression you were left with regarding your special dietary requirements. Carnival values our guests with special needs and we make every effort to accommodate these requests. Towards this end, it is our goal to have a variety of gluten-free products onboard our ships at any given time. Mrs. Bruno, although we respect your continuing interest in this matter, our position remains the same. I am sorry that you remain displeased and regret we cannot come to an understanding. At this point, I must advise you that we are unable to give this matter any further consideration. I take the opportunity to reiterate our sincere apologies previously expressed and leave you with my best wishes. Sincerely, Amanda Saenz Guest Care Specialist Carnival Cruise Lines

Since being gluten free, I have take two cruises on the Norwegian Epic. The first cruise went to the Eastern Caribbean, the second cruise was to Italy. Prior to the cruise I noted my gluten free dining preference both through my online check in and I also through my travel agent. The first night in the dining room was the only night that went a little rough. Mostly because things took longer to prepare, as they did not know my selections ahead of time. After diner the maitre d' brought me a menu for the next night (the same menu everyone else would have), I was able to choose what ever I wanted and they would adjust the ingredients to be gluten free. I also was able to request gluten free sliced bread at each seating. Each night a gluten free dessert was also offered. My favorite was their flourless chocolate cake with raspberry sauce! Most all my meals were eaten in the dining room. For breakfast there was a choice of gluten free waffles. I would not recommend them though, they were always a little hard with not much flavor. I usually ate yogurt, with fruit, eggs, and bacon each morning. I could also have gluten free bread for breakfast if I wanted. For lunch we ate at the buffet most of the time. This took a little more effort, as I had to talk to the supervisor each time to requst my gluten free pasta or pizza. They also advised me which other items were gluten free on the buffet. There I was able to get my very own gluten free pizza with the toppings of my choice! The pizza was not the best I've ever had, but it certainly wasn't the worst either. The option of gluten free pasta was also always available and actually quite good. I was advised which salad dressings were gluten free each day as well. Overall I had an excellent experience cruising on the Norweign Epic. I never went away hungry with the many options I had to choose. Everyone was overly accommodating making sure I was always happy with my choices. I even when as far as to write a letter personally to Norwegian complimenting them on the outstanding service I received on both my cruises with them.
