On our last night in Florence, we chose to eat at a restaurant just east of our apartment. It's across a highway from the main historic/tourist area of Florence. It's more of a residential area for locals, I'm guessing. But it still had many cafes and shops. We walked there, and as with most nights, we chose to dine on the early side (for Italy) -- around 7 pm. Apparently, 8 pm is prime time for Italians, and the restaurant really filled up at that time. La Luna is a casual restaurant, without much seating inside, but with a nice outdoor area with tables in the back of the restaurant. They are AiC certified for gluten free by the Italian Celiac Association. They specialize in pizza but have other options. Our waitress's English wasn't as good as people working the restaurants in the historic/tourist area of Florence, and she apologized, but it is really us that should be apologizing, right? After all, we are in their country! We certainly got by communicating with the few words/phrases we knew -- and with her English (which was certainly better than our Italian!). I ordered a delicious antipasto platter of grilled vegetables and buffalo mozzarella -- and then shared my son's gluten free Margherita pizza, which was outstanding. It was a very close second to the best pizza we'd had in Italy on this trip (Mama Eat and Mama Frites, both in Rome). I'd highly recommend ordering the pizza here -- and it's worth making the extra effort to get to this restaurant if you're in the mood for pizza. They also offer gluten free Nutella crepes! The bite my son offered me was delicious. And my husband and I ordered a liter of Tuscan red "house" wine (we didn't realize quite how much that was!), and it was only 7.50 Euros -- under $10 at the current exchange rate! This place can't be beat for quality, taste, and value.
