After reading many glowing reviews of Ciro & Sons in Florence on this website, I booked a reservation for our first night in town. That way, I figured if we loved it as much as everyone else, we could try to make it there another night during our 4-day stay in Florence. Ciro & Sons is in a historic building, a late Renaissance home of the noble family of Pope Clemente VIII Aldobrandini. It has a beautiful interior as well as seating outside. This is a true family run restaurant, with Ciro's four sons and other relatives working in the business. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal here. Everything can be made gluten free (except the ravioli), and they are certified by the Italian Celiac Association. We ordered gluten free garlic bread, but we probably didn't need to, as they brought out gluten free toast/crackers and olives to start. They were wonderful. My son and I split the gluten free calamari, because we both love fried calamari, and how often can you find it gluten free? That, too, was very good, although a tad pricey at 17 Euros. I had already had quite a bit of pasta and pizza over the course of the week, so I ordered mushroom risotto, which I enjoyed. Our Celiac son ordered the Fettuccine Alfredo with chicken, and our other son ordered regular pasta with shrimp. My husband ordered Penne all' Arrabbiata, along with a Peroni brand gluten free beer (I opted for the house Chianti, which was quite good.) Our boys could not resist ordering the gluten free crepes with Nutella, and they loved them so much that my husband and I didn't even get a bite! We decided that we really wanted to try the gluten free pizza at Ciro & Sons, so we ventured back the very next day for lunch. It used to be that you needed to give them notice a day in advance if you wanted to come and order gluten free pizza, but that isn't necessary anymore. They are always able to make it. (They even sell their proprietary gluten free pizza mix, which we purchased two boxes of!) So we dined outside the next day for lunch, and three of the four of us chose their Neapolitan style gluten free pizza, which was such a treat! They have many varieties to choose from. I particularly enjoyed the Capricciosa (salami/pepperoni, ham, artichokes, mushrooms). They are a large individual size. Our other son -- who does not need to be gluten free -- ordered the Pesto Fettuccine. Another great meal at Ciro & Sons!

I have just returned from a trip to Florence. I ended up at Ciro and Sons 3 times within a week and a half. All of their gluten free food is delicious. From garlic bread to the Nutella crepe. You are in good hands when you eat here. I also found out that the Italian Celiac Association has certified this restaurant. They 'test' their certified restaurants every 6 months to ensure they are following the right guidelines. Only 6 restaurants in Florence have this accreditation - and Ciro and Sons is one of them.

Please note that you have to call ahead for their pizza since they make it fresh. Totally worth it!

Best Gluten Free Pizza Ever at restaurant in Florence, Italy,

Pizzeria Ciro and Sons took top honors at the World Gluten-Free Pizza Championship and is the only pizzeria in the world to mix Neapolitan pizza with gluten-free pizza. Ciro and Sons gluten-free menu includes bruschetta, lasagna, lobster spaghetti, pizza with any toppings you can imagine and desserts including crepes, cheesecake, puff pastry and gelato. If you must pick just one thing on the menu, select the gluten-free Pizza Vesuvio, a luscious pizza topped with fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, arugula and shaved truffles. Dine inside the art-filled dining room or al fresco on the patio.

This is a really nice little restaurant/pizzeria in Florence in between the Train station and the Duomo on Via Del Giglio. They have outside seating and the inside is beautifully decorated. It is a pizzeria - Antica Pizzeria Dell'Arte, but also a full restaurant, Ciro & Sons. So you can go for pizza for lunch or a nice dinner at night. They have gluten free pasta and meats available. If you call ahead one day you can make a reservation for gluten free pizza and they will specially prepare the dough for you. One of the best restaurants that we ate at in Florence.

On a vacation to Italy in September, 2007, we spent a few days in Florence. The first night there, we noticed a lovely-looking restaurant and decided to try it. I was prepared with an Italian Gluten Free restaurant card but didn't really need it. They were very aware of the gluten-free diet and noted on the menu that they offered gluten-free pasta. What a surprise! Even without that, we would strongly recommend this restaurant to anyone (whether eating gluten-free or not) who visits Florence. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with frescos on the wall. From the moment we sat down, we felt like the Ciro family had welcomed us into their home. We enjoyed this restaurant so much that we ate there all 3 nights we were in Florence. Each time, I ordered a different GF pasta dish and each was perfectly prepared and presented. When we left after our third visit, we received hugs and warm wished from the Ciro family. We are looking forward to returning to Florence and eating at Ciro and Sons once again.
