This restaurant chain has many locations throughout London -- and even outside London, like in the town of Bath, which we visited today. While we didn't have time to stop to eat during our brief visit to Bath, we did have dinner at one of the ASK Italian restaurant locations upon arriving back in London. They offer a gluten free menu, and it's quite extensive. There are starters and salads, 11 different gluten free pizzas ("prima" and "classic" varieties), 7 different pasta preparations available with organic gluten free fusilli, fish and risotto entrees, and several desserts, gelatos, and sorbets that are gluten free. Each item was as tempting as the next. From this gluten free menu, we ordered the Zucchine E Pesto (gluten free pasta with zucchini in pesto sauce); Frutti Di Mare pasta with prawns, mussels, clams, and squid in a rich tomato sauce; and Sea Bass Al Forno baked in a white wine sauce with potatoes, tomatoes, mushrooms, and spinach. Everything was delicious, and the gluten free pasta was cooked a nice al dente. The one item ordered by a non-Celiac family member was the Margherita with Buffalo Mozzarella Pizza, and it was much enjoyed -- a wonderful and quick-cooking artisan pizza. (My husband had wanted to order it gluten free, but they were out of gluten free pizza crust at that location on that evening. Fortunately, he does not need to eat gluten free but merely wanted to try their gluten free crust.) That was the only was the only disappointment of the meal. Lesson learned: if we (or you) are craving gluten free pizza and want to dine at ASK Italian, call ahead to verify the particular location where you desire to dine has GF pizza crust that day -- or be prepared to order something else from their extensive and delicious gluten free menu instead. I wish we'd had room to sample their gelatos, but after some good wine and the meal, we were satisfied enough. Perhaps we'll have the opportunity to dine at ASK Italian another time during our vacation.
