This pizzeria is located in the Banker's Hill neighborhood, a block from Balboa Park. They can make any of their pizzas with a gluten free crust and will honor special requests like taking the croutons off their yummy Caesar salad. They even brought out their can of anchovies so we could check out the brand (I've been trying to find it, but have failed spectacularly at that).

Their gluten-free crusts are available in two sizes: 12" for an additional $1.25 and 16" at an additional $2.00.

We had their Bianca pizza (fresh spinach, fennel sausage, Gorgonzola, roasted peppers, and walnuts on a garlic/olive oil base) and their DiPollo (chicken breast, mushrooms, roasted garlic, and fontina on a garlic/olive oil base). They were both delicious.

In addition to the Caesar salad we had the arugula pear salad too.

The dining area is casual.

This restaurant is part of what looks to be a west coast chain that was started in Portland, OR. If you sign up on their mailing list you'll get 15% off your next meal, unless you live in California (boo).

Back to Pizzicato Pizza for more gluten free food -- San Diego,

Wrote my last review from memory and all it did was make me hungry for pizza. Had to drop friends off at Lindbergh Field, so was able to talk them into lunch at Pizzicato Pizza. It helped that one of my friends is also gluten intolerant.

But onto the food:

This time we got the Sausage Combo Pizza (their own fennel sausage, mushrooms, black olives, and smoked sausage) and the Al Forno (roasted eggplant, zucchini, roasted onions, mushrooms, sweet peppers, cherve and Roma tomatoes). Both were delicious. The Sausage combo had a tomato sauce base that reminded me of New York City pizza sauces. Another thing I liked better than with some of the other gluten-free pizzas I've tried in San Diego was how thin they made the crust. It was crispy and chewy and that too reminded me of thin crust NYC pizza.

I should make some corrections to my last review: 1. While you cannot sign up for the Pizzicato Pizza email news letter, you can sign up for text messages from the San Diego location and get 15% off of your meal.
2. The 12" gluten-free crust is the only size available at this location.

Some other things to consider:
1. They offer gluten-free slices.
2. In addition to the crushed red pepper and Parmesan cheese shakers, they also had an Italian spice shaker available too. Being a former New Yorker, that's my favorite for shaking onto my pizza and most places around here don't put it out.
3. I was told that they will be expanding their gluten-free menu to include pasta too. Yay!
