In 2013 the Acorn was named one of Canada's 10 best new restaurants. It is located in Vancouver, and serves unique vegetarian, vegan, raw and gluten free dishes. There are also local beers and wines, along with proprietary mixed drinks to compliment the foods. Currently, the early spring menu offers many gluten free choices. Among those are: the leek and sunflower seed pate with arugula pesto, crispy leek, sunflower seeds, shallots and taro crisps; the spring harvest with locally grown vegetables and herbs; the Sarsaparilla with great northern beans, dirty rice, collard greens, pearl onions, green pepper coulis, and root beer gel; and butternut squash mac and cheese with jalapeno tomatillo relish and yam chips. For dessert there is a cheese plate with local artisan cheeses and seasonal preserves, a blood orange and vanilla cashew cheesecake, or a five spiced apple beignet to choose from. This establishment does not have a dedicated gluten free kitchen. Talk to the manager about your dietary requirements and precautions to avoid cross contamination. The early spring menu can be viewed online here: http://www.theacornrestaurant.ca/menu/Acorn_Early_Spring_Menu_Mar13_2015.pdf
