Bruschetta Restaurant Far Surpasses My Gluten Free Expectations
Another restaurant doing gluten free food? I went to Bruschetta the first time expecting grilled meat or fish and fruit salad for dessert. Boy did I get one of the best surprises of my life! Gluten free pizza and pasta, antipasti that a Coeliac could eat and best of all...sublime gluten free desserts.
My Mum was Italian, and I was always a sucker for her homemade pizza, gnocchi, stuffed macaroni, lasagna, etc., so it was a sad day when I was diagnosed with a gluten allergy. Now at Bruschetta I've discovered my love of pasta all over again. Owner/chef Julia Zardetto makes the best gluten free gnocchi, tagliatelle, ravioli and pizzas in the world. The pasta is so good that my husband can't tell the difference between standard food and gluten free.
Julia has a special gluten-free menu with a choice of starters that include Bruschetta, divine mozarella and garlic bread, Calamari with homemade tartar sauce, Arrancini (deep fried stuffed rice balls) and mixed antipasti.
For main courses, the risotto and ravioli changes depending on what's in season. But if you get the chance to try the braised beef ravioli, don't hold back. On top of this, there is a choice of around nine different pizzas (all stone baked) and a small selection of meat and fish dishes.
Then we come to dessert. What can I say...apple cake, chocolate hazlenut cake, pannacotta, chessecake, and pancakes. The real problem here is choosing which one to have as they are all truly delicious!
Julia has a wheat intolerance, so she understands the importance of ensuring the food is prepared in a gluten free environment and that there is no cross contamination.
She also works tirelessly to highlight the cause of gluten free and has been recognised by the coeliac society for her work.
News of her fabulous gluten free food is travelling, and it's not unusual to get people coming from Kent, Hertfordshire, Essex and Hampshire to eat Pizza and Pasta for the first time in years.
If you have the opportunity to visit the restaurant please do so as it will be a treat for your tastebuds and at very reasonable prices. You can find your own little piece of Italian gluten free heaven!
